Stayed just one night......funny wee town where strangers stand out..reminded us of some backwater where everyone's related. Room was cluttered....bed was hard and uncomfortable. ..cobwebs and dust in the room and outside were the stand out feature....certainly not the tidy place we saw on the brochure! Next time would catch the ferry and escape!!

I cannot recommend this highly enough. The room was luxurious and quaint. Artwork and decorations helped to make the space welcoming and relaxed. At all times I was made to feel welcome. The Postmistress' breakfast (full cooked) was yummy. A nice way to start the day.

We stayed 2 nights at Postmasters Lodging and enjoyed the quirky charm, uniqueness and different experience. John and Dorothy are friendly and entertaining and John has a very good wine cellar and loves a chat. Rawene is very small but plenty to look at with the coming and goings of the ferry and short drive to the Hokianga harbour area.

My boyfriend and I stayed at The Postmasters Lodgings in order to attend a wedding nearby. The place was the most beautiful house I have ever seen! It was decorated Art Nouveau style. The walls and the velvet curtains were teal blue colour. Our bedroom had a four-poster bed, and full of beautiful wooden furniture. The house was full of... More

My husband and I arrived late in the day with only 30 minutes notice. Dorothy and John made us feel like old friends come for a visit. We enjoyed a lovely meal, wine and lively conversation before retiring to our charming room. The Postmasters is a sweet place to stay.

Great location, right near the ferry. John is a good host. Very comfortable bed and interesting place to stay. Fantastic trip to the totally unspoilt Mitimiti beach and amazing trip to Wairere boulders. Both are must do activities.

I was driving around Northland, and was very lucky to find this very special lodging. Stayed one night from 30. January. The owner is a very friendly host, as hosts should be everywhere! The lodge is a private house, nearly 100 years old. The inventary is held in an old, elegant fashion style. The owner has made most of the... More

This is a really historical experience. A very comfortable stay in an antique filled period home. Johns woodworking talent adds a lot to the decor. All rooms open onto balconies and are individual in layout. We felt welcome and breakfast was superb with views across the harbour. Not our usual choice of accommodation but we were pleasantly surprised. Situated in... More
