The Hotel de l'Echo is located in the small town of La Chaise-Dieu. The town is very small with only a few hotels, but from what I could tell, the Hotel de l'Echo seemed to be the nicest. It's located just off the main avenue through town, right beside the abbey. It's about a 1 minute walk to the abbey entrance. Our room was very clean and of moderate size. It was quaintly decorated with a nice view. The bathroom was quite large, though the toilette had to be flushed twice to dispose even of the smallest amount of paper. There is no lift. The proprietor was very friendly and accommodating. She spoke some English. The dinning room was cute and dinner delicious, though I thought it was somewhat overpriced. If you're not traveling in high tourist season, expect to eat dinner at the hotel.
