Have stayed here for 2*1 week stays only because of location and lack of any other hotels. I won't be going back. Food is poor, wifi does not work so don't bother paying for it, heating did not work in the middle of winter and shower was busted. If you want a drink at the bar, be prepared to wait... More

We had been with friends previously to the Bistro next door to the hotel which we really enjoyed so decided to give the hotel restaurant a try for a special occaision. Unfortunately we were the only four dining which meant not a lot of atmosphere. The starters were fine (especially the scallops) but the main courses a bit of a... More

Stayed at the George overnight midweek on business. Arrived early and had no trouble with getting access to my room which was very useful. Then arrived in late back in the evening but again no problem for the staff. Room was comfortable and clean and the welcome and fare at breakfast was very good. Good value and would stay again. More

Opened the bedroom door and thought that I was staying with my Nan in the 1970's. 'Tatty' is the word, dreaded the arrival of night and the thought of sleeping in the 1940's single bed was beyond the pale. Then the bathroom, awful, carpet on the floor that smelt of urine and dated bathroom suite with no warm water, and... More

What a delight to find a hotel that offers a choice of times for breakfast - up to 9.30am in the hotel restaurant or later in Next Door at The George. The result, we were able to take our time in the morning, have a late lie-in and breakfast at 11am before checking out by the noon deadline. Added to... More

We stayed here as part of a wedding group. The public areas are nice and well kept, but the bedrooms are distinctly below the standard. The first night, the bedroom we had smelt really badly of urine, largely due to the old carpet in the bathroom, and we were unable to sleep due to the noise coming through the floor... More

We wanted a two/three day break on the way home from Devon & a holiday with the grandsons. This was an impulse decision and from the usual last minute sites it became clear that all three star hotels were fully booked from Blandford Forum to Basingstoke except for the George which could offer all room options @ discount prices. We... More

Friendly hotel and a former coaching inn, so plenty of genuine olde worldness about it. Lovely large room with a four poster bed and murals dating back to 16th century. Very clean and comfortable and also very reasonably priced especially when compared with many places we've stayed. We definitely hope to return in the near future. More

Downstairs decor is jaded. Rooms not clean. Dead insects on the window sill. Dusty. Dirty toothbrush glass. Tatty decor. Wallpaper peeling off. Depressing colour scheme. Bedding - dingy cover, one sheet , one blanket, one limp pillow each. Noisy at night. Has potential to be a lovely hotel. More

We stayed here for one night when we needed to book something at short notice, i.e 2pm on the Saturday afternoon for that night and of the available hotels this was the most reasonable. The hotel itself is nice, it has a restaurant (we didn't use) and rooms that are scattered from what we could see between different buildings, there... More
