The place is perfect for relaxing and exploring the Andalusian countryside. The property itself is beautiful and well maintained, and Di and John are perfect hosts. Highly recommended especially to hikers - John knows everything there is to know about hiking in the area, and is happy to share. Breakfast offers a nice variety, and the optional dinners are well... We stayed at Los Castanos for four nights at the end of June and really enjoyed the village atmosphere and activities, being able to go for local walks, bird watching from our balcony - and the good company of fellow guests and our hosts, Di and John. We enjoyed Di's lovely dinners and John's wines on two nights and ate... More

We visited Cartajima at the end of March, just the perfect weather and turist-free time. Cartajima is a beautiful mountain village, we spent the afternoon wondering its stone streets and admiring the sunset. Hotel los Castanos is a beautiful project of Di and John. The building is stunning and the space is peaceful and very harmonious. Our room was perfect... More

We have returned home to Australia after our European holiday and now have some time to write a report. We stayed at Los Castanos for a week at the end of May on our first ever trip to Spain. Di and John were perfect hosts who gave us a warm welcome and provided splendid service throughout our stay. Excellent meals,... More

We stayed at Los Castanos at the end of a 10 day vacation in Spain. This was the perfect ending to our trip. We were really taken back by the beauty of Cartajima, and Di has done a wonderful job building a beautiful retreat in this quaint town. The hotel itself feels like a home, and Di and John are... This is an excellent hotel in a delightful and picturesque area of Spain. Cartajima is a sparkling white village set in the mountainous Serrania de Ronda and the town of Ronda, a short distance away, is well worth a visit. Di and John gave us a very warm welcome and provided everything we needed. Their help re local walks and... More

Briefly - go here. The service was impeccable (they had sandwiches for us when we arrived after Midnight from Morocco), friendly, attentive, generous with their time. The hotel and it's location could not be more inviting and the village life is a piece of Spain that all travelers should enjoy. Di and John made us feel at home including with... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Just six kilometres off the tourist trail to Ronda is a valley with stunning mountain scenery and eagles soaring overhead. You are heading for Cartajima, one of the most traditional of the famous Andalucian pueblos blancos, white mountain villages. Following our driving directions, you arrive outside the great chestnut doors of Los Castanos behind which there is quality accommodation, personal, informal atmosphere, local wines and great home-cooked food. Relax in your spacious bedroom with its enormous bed, soft sheets and fantastic mountain views. Stretch out on a lounger on the rooftop terrace, savor your wine and melt into the mountains. This must be the most perfect getaway, a totally indulgent mountain village hotel in a completely unexpected location. ... more   less
