Land is really big. They could build 1.000 room easily but acctually they have only 21 rooms. 10 bungalows and 11 other rooms. Nature is impressive, rooms are big and clean. Stuff also very helpfull. Room rate is really cheap. What I can say more? If you like green environment, biggest garden (I would say forest), noisy birds definetely you... More

I stayed in an executive suite which was huge yet way beyond my needs. as a single traveler. Staff are friendly and make every effort to ensure your stay is comfortable, the food is really good, although the kitchen is very slow even when the dining-room is not busy.

The hotel has seen better days when it belonged to a larger group of hotels. Reception was not what I would expect from a five star property. Check in was smooth and efficient from what seemed like really junior staff, they just got the job done. Room allocated was a paraplegic room; I did not mind this as I was... More

Was very impressed by the quality, the numerous works of art (by local artists) and the homely but elegant feel of the place. Food was delicious and customer service excellent.

Makaranga has always been one of the most special places in SA for us. We have paintings of the beautiful gardens and have walked on every pathway. Our brunch wedding was perfect and everyone enjoyed themselves and loved being there. We returned for our 4 year wedding anniversary on the day of the opening of the 'New Makaranga'. We love... More

I stayed here in November as part of a business trip. To say the least disappointing! The rooms are out of date! The bathrooms are all equipped for handicap, not that nice if you are looking for a little luxury, they are stark and cold and functional. Thats it. The bath is tiny! Not usable for anyone over 1m! The... More

On Saturday 20th August we (party of 7) went for breakfast at Makaranga Lodge - a special occassion as it was a week before my daughter's wedding. We ordered 6 traditional English breakfasts and one pastry and jam. Without question, this was the worst meal out I have ever had. We had the following problems: * a long wait for... More

We had our wedding at Makaranga and it was pathetic. The night before the wedding, the table sizes were all wrong and when promised that staff will be the to help with the preparation... There was no-one. My father-in-law stayed at the venue the night before to and to be woken up that his car was broken into and all... More

There were no facilities for business travellers: swimming pool outside is some 40 sq m large of of an uncomfortable design. Taking into account that darkness falls here at 18.00, there is no chance to use it in the evening, for there are no lights. The fitness room is tiny with two machines only and against deposit, the spa is... More
