Stayed here for one night, friendly staff, restaurant and pub are closed on Sunday, spacious and comfy rooms, breakfast was fine, but the house was very cold, also did not have enough sheets on the bed to stay warm at night. Overall had a nice stay here.

Ok for the environment and the comfort. But we were forced to book for tours... Cheetah Sanctuary was a real scam : for 350R they just drop you to the sanctuary, pay the entrance (65R!!) and pick you up when it's finished. We also felt strange with the ambiance, the "workers" were busy all day and reception staff seemed very... More

We had a very nice experience at the orange elephant backpackers. We had right from the start a very nice conversation with john, the owner, and his lovely girlfriend. We made a lot of fun while drinking some nice (nehhhh) wine. After that we ate great pizza at the bar where the son of john is the owner. He was... More

This place is well located near Addo Elephant Park. The room we had was clean and comfortable and close to a shared bathroom. The food in the restaurant was good and the beer cold. We really appreciated that the owner did not push their tours, but instead gave us good information should we want to self drive the park, which... More

A must if you're spending time in the Addo area. The staff is very accommodating and friendly and the same goes for owner John who went out of his way to help us. The backapackers has a lovely set-up, rooms are spacious and clean. In general it is clear that it is run with pride, making your stay there very... More

We stayed here in February just after high season so it was not super busy. Very accommodating staff with the owner, John at the rudder. The rooms are clean, spacious and affordable. There is a clear backpacker vibe and it's easy to meet new people. It is a huge property where you can stroll around the lemon orchards, chill in... More

I had a very good stay at the Orange Elephant on February 9th to 11th of this year (2015). Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I really appreciated the shuttle service to and from Port Elizabeth as I was by myself and not driving a vehicle. Meet a cool wildlife photographer working at the hostel, Conrad Cramer, and from him... More

Very nice and relaxing place. Staff is friendly and helpful. Most of all John, the owner. It is close to the Addo Elephant Park. Tours are offered. Has a pub 100m from the hostel. All together I had a great time.

We stayed at Orange Elephant for several nights while working on a diversity survey around the Addo area. This is NOT your run-of-the-mill backpacker's place: it is charming and has a great atmosphere and energy! The rooms are all very clean and nicely-decorated, and there are lots of fellow travelers to meet and greet. Its proximity to Addo Elephant National... More
