Looking at some of the previous reviews it is definitely 'one mans meat...' I booked this place for my wife and her friend as an overnight stop prior to taking a cruise from Harwich to the USA. Upon arrival I thought the appearance externally was a little disappointing it is very small and appears initially to be part of the... More

We recently had the set lunch meal. Three courses for £15 with decent portions and very good quality food. As it was a lunch time it was good have the option to purchase a 500ml carafe of wine to share instead of a bottle.

Had a lovely Sunday meal with friends. The restaurant is welcoming and the table well proportioned. The views over the estuary from the front windows are delightful. The food was good and the roast beef was cooked to perfection. The choices on both the food and drinks menu were diverse and cater to all tastes.

By chance we stumbled across The Mistley Thorn whilst seeking somewhere for breakfast (with our dog) trying to avoid the national fast food chains. Well what a stroke of luck. We received a genuine warm welcome and were soon to be offered coffee, toast with jam and a breakfast menu. This was more like fine dining rather than a greasy... More

Took advantage of a short break at this lovely little hotel, which sits opposite an estuary just a hop, skip and a jump from Manningtree in Essex. Breakfast and dinner are included in the £150 cost of a very comfortable, straight-forward double room. (Monday night is just £100 for same) The dinner 'set-menu' boasts and impressive selection, which for most... More

Contrary to a recent comment, this is definitely NOT a pub with rooms, this is not a pub, this is a fine dining fish and seafood restaurant! I live in the area, moving away sadly, no furniture on last day, so had to find a place for my last night and thought I would treat myself. Fabulous huge rooms, I... More

This is perhaps more of a pub with rooms. Pretty Georgian buildings. The rooms are great. We stayed in a separate building, a couple of doors down the street. Very recently refurbished, great beds, good bahrooms, very contemporary "farrow and ball" colours etc. We were in room 9 and the only criticism is perhaps there is a bit too much... More

Stayed two nights on Dinner, Bread and Breakfast deal. Had room in house two doors down road. Very large comfortable room, newly completed, large comfy bed, very quiet. Nice touches like DAB radio, bathrobes, bottles of water replaced each day. Had dinner in restuarant - really excellent both nights. Same for breakfasts - loads of choice and aeverything beautifully prepared.... More

The "Thorn" is in a building that was once a pub. It moved up-market and became a fish restaurant and expanded into providing accomadation as well. There are about 10 rooms, and no two are alike! The room we had - Number 1 - overlooks the front of the property, with views across the rooftops to the Stour Estuary and... More

For a night away this is a must. The staff are wonderful and more than anything they are sincere. I hate pretentious staff and not one pretentious employee is at this venue which is really refreshing! The food is fresh and tasty and the restaurant is modern and sophisticated. I found the location to be tranquil and very relaxing. The... More
