“I had previously booked 5 days in Hotel Garcon totalling 560 Euro. Unfortunately soon after booking this I was aware that I would not be able to stay on those dates and so rang up the hotel, talked to the receptionist and cancelled the booking. They assured me at that stage that my booking was cancelled. A few months later... More

We stayed overnight as part of wedding celebrations which had started in Cognac. The setting is an idyllic village on hillslopes - we took a walk after breakfast into the countryside and alongside the stream. The welcome was warm & the food : well one word: 'stunning!' We would go with the duck stew every time! We had our own... More

The hotel sits quite neatly on a corner opposite a stern looking 12th Century church which sits at a jaunty angle to the adjacent hill. The hotel is the combination of five houses rather cleverly combined to make an interesting locking space. When I arrived rather frazzled from a long day they looked after me before supper with a selection... More

We had a great stay here, actually just as a stop over on our way to Spain, but it deserves a longer visit. Some people say the hotel is expensive, but the superb, and very reasonable priced, restaurant makes up for that. We'll definitely come back!

When touring with American friends we stopped here for one rather hot night and had a wonderful stay. This Hotel was raised from the shell of old village houses which had been created by the architect owner and his wife. What a brilliant job they have done with great rooms in a lovely old town and out american friends were... More

We stayed just one night - My wife our three boys (4, 6 & 8) in two rooms on the way back from South of France to Jersey and wow what a great place this is. The family managed hotel is so quaint and setting is beautiful. Personally designed by the family and it works so well. The rooms are... More

This November, on our way back to France from Spain, we stayed for two nights with two other couples at des Francs Garcons, and loved it. The village is rustic and charming, and the hotel is a modern and comfortable re-invention of an old dwelling. Our hosts were very gracious and also helpful when one of our group needed medical... Nothing to do with Saint Sauvant near Poitiers but between Saintes and Cognac in a delapidated ancient charming village with a wonderful church and enough empty houses for sale to give the Fresh Fields fantasists goose bumps and the hotel is just perfect;.great food and wine, hospitable hosts and tout le monde works.A wonderful base for exploring the Saintes,Cognac,Angoulemes corridor. We were... On our way back from Portugal we visited this lovely hotel. The road to Saint Sauvant was already exciting. Entering the hotel the friendly staff helped us immediately with luggage providing us to sit back and relax after a long journey. Rooms quite spacious and clean, all with modern design decorated. We enjoyed a fine glass of local white wine... More

We booked this hotel after seeing it in Alastair Sawday's book. It is an extremely interesting building in that the architects (one of whom was running the show during our stay) have packed a lot into 5 floors of a very narrow building, including a charming roof terrace with a small pool. It is located towards the top of this... More
