This family hotel in Just on the fjord and close to the glacier. Don't expect a city hotel- this one has no elevator and no air condition ( a problem in summer) But you will find a warm welcome, a good advice and story on the area. the best wine and beer you can drink at night on the water.... This place really is all about location. The setting is truly idyllic. Sitting on the expansive deck, literally hanging over the fjord, overlooking a glacier is like being center stage in a fairytale. The huge picture windows in the charming, cozy communal sitting room share the same view. The hotel overall is very charming. Our room was small and simply... More

We booked this hotel as our one "luxury night" on a norway camping-hut-trip. As we had been on a kayak & glacier trip we would arrive late (& hungry...) so I called them up to let them know and ask if we could still get dinner. It turned out that there had been an issue with our booking, so only... More

My wife, daughter and I stayed for three nights at the end of July, 2014. We found the uniqueness of the Fjaerland Fordstue to be it's greatest charm. Located at the end of the Fjord and surrounded by beautiful mountains, we could not have asked for a more beautiful location to be able to cross "Norway Fjords" off our bucket... More

You have to go to this hotel! It is wonderful! Our family is used to higher end places, but the rustic charm of this hotel is undeniable. We definitely recommend it highly. Fjaerland has been a destination for tourists since the 1800s and is well worth the visit if you are looking for a beautiful, peaceful location, and great hiking.... More

This quirky and wonderfully located hotel was the high spot of our holiday in Norway. We had a book-lined bedroom which would have been rather lacking in storage and sitting space and the usual hotel facilities had we been staying for long but was great fun for our one night. Sitting on the decking overlooking the fjord with a view... More

If you know a hotel with a better location than this... Our bedroom overlooked an amazing fjord scene, like in a picture book. The village is bijou, a sort of Hay on Wye on Fjord... Lots of second-hand bookshops, plenty of the books in English. We had a delicious evening meal: a fish patty, then local lamb with a selection... More

Fjaerland - the books village ,is a very nice and unique small village. The hotel is located right on the fjord and you can enjoy the beautiful views over a very good beer or a glass of French wine they import. The owner is very nice and givea lecture on the area to the guests. The building is a wooden... More

Without question, this hostelry has an outstanding fjordside location, though it was best viewed from the ground floor rooms rather than from our bedroom, where it was restricted. Fjaerland is a very attractive village, with oodles of charm added to by the wooden Fjordstue, and is well worth a visit for its peacefulness and views. However, we were disappointed in... More

We normally well research our holidays, but we were surprised how long it took to drive in Norway. Over 7 days we averaged about 35kms/hr, so a 350 - 400kms drive each day took over 10 hours with stops for photos etc. So we were glad that we had a comfortable place to stay en route to Alesund from Dalen....
