Lovely old building with friendly, attentive staff. Beautiful big room but unfortunately no heat during the Scottish 'summer' lead to a cold stay. The biggest disappointment came with the food. My wife and I had signed up for the dinner, bed and breakfast option with the understanding there was an a-la-carte menu which was not offered. This wouldn't have been... more

Our event was a superb evening for Borders Forest Trust supporters. The staff were helpful at all stages, from planning to the event itself. On the eveing itself, the champagne and the canapes were superb. The facilities for presentation were also very good. We would like to complement the hotel management and staff on helping us to create a lively... more

My wife and I stayed at the castle in the early part of May. Fron our arrival until our departure we found the staff attentative and courteous, the dinner and breakfast menus were varied, the food excellent and the room large, clean and well appointed. A & M Urquhart more

Auchen Castle Hotel's gardens & grounds are beautiful, both to walk in and to look out on. The rooms are clean and very comfortable ~ our double had a large, very grand and comfortable bed, and a fabulous en-suite. The lounge and bar areas are pleasant, and the art gallery in the lounge is an unusual & welcome touch. The... more

My 16-year-old daughter and I spent a couple nights at Auchen Castle on the tail end of a group tour of England and Scotland and had such a wonderful time. The castle is beautiful, the staff couldn't have been more accomodating, the food was incredible, I could go on and on. Tara, the email contact, made the booking and transportation... more

My husband and I had a wonderful weekend to celebrate my birthday. We travelled up from Norfolk, which was quite a way, but worth it. We forgot about the long drive as soon as we stepped out of the car. The room was a 'four poster' and was furnished to a high standard and very comfortable, with a view over... more

Auchen Castle does not at first sight appear inviting. Redolent of a bygone age, the slightly jaded approach drive does not beckon, nor does the external appearance of the hotel building with its sombre grey stone that has lost its sparkle. You could be forgiven for thinking that you have arrived at the home of some down-at-heel county gentry, rather... more

Having read a couple of reviews that say that there could be improvements at Auchen Castle I felt I had to review my recent stay. Firstly anywhere can improve, but here there seems to be a real will to make this a special place (I understand that it's under fairly new managment and they really seem to know what they... more

Positives: Attractive exterior in beautiful setting, characterful interior, wood panelling, high ceilings. Bedroom (in main building) nicely decorated, very comfortable bed. Light and airy dining room, huge windows overlooking Italian gardens and hills beyond, good quality food, best cooked breakfast I've had in a British hotel for quality, variety, presentation and generosity. Pleasant staff. Negatives: Reception area dingy and in need... more
