The staff and locals welcomed us strangers onto their pub, great log fire on the go on a cool March evening. We didn't stop for dinner but it smelt delicious so we could be back there soon. A typical country pub with flag stone floor and beamed ceilings.

As good a place as any to stay if you are exploring the North Devon / Cornish coast. Biker friendly and very welcoming from the minute we turned up. Grub is good if a little basic but excellent portions. Breakfast will set you up for the day. Comfortable bed and quiet surroundings should ensure a good nights sleep, especially after... More

Lovely place with lovely food and lovely breakfast! Staff all very friendly! The cleaner could do with a few tips though as room was not very clean! (tide mark around the bath, hairs in plughole and mirrors and windows covered in fingerprints! The hotel is lovely just needs the polishing touches!

We booked three rooms over the August Bank holiday and found it a most welcoming place, the staff really worked very hard and nothing was too much trouble for them. the food was excellent, the beer very well kept and the bar was very inviting. The breakfasts were substantial and the evening meal that we ate there was well cooked... More

The management is aware of the problem with the Red and Rose wine served in the bar on Carnival night. I would like their assurance that this is being investigated! I have been visiting this pub for the best part of 40 years and was astounded when I realised what had happened and more so when the same complaint was... More

We stayed for three nights on a 3 for 2 deal which made the price extremely reasonable. Received a warm welcome upon arrival but as the restaurant was busy, we had to wait for a while before being checked in and shown to our rooms. I was in room 5 end unite twin room which was newly decorated. Only minor... More

We stayed one night here and cannot complain at all, We were given a very warm welcome, As there had been an afternoon event we struggled to park, but the staff came out and made sure they sorted us a space out, not easy as we were in a largish van. The pub bar itself is in need of an... More

Stayed here for three nights as was working in the area. We had the twin room without an en-suit. The room was alright, although you wouldn't want to walk barefoot on the carpet. The sink in the room has such low water pressure it took 8 minutes to fill the sink. The shared bathroom was dreary and hasn't been thoroughly... More

Again, this is one of the times when Trip Advisor needs a category between average and very good. Average is a bit low. Very good too high. It was quite good. The pub is very old and (not surprisingly) shows sign of age. However, the family room that we were in had been recently decorated, was very nice, comfortable and... More

We have just spent one night at the Anchor and were really very disappointed. We felt the attitude of the owners was very casual and although we had booked and paid online there was a lukewarm welcome. When we arrived the place was empty apart from two people huddled over a fire in the bar and it felt very bleak... More
