My husband and I entered Zion at its northern edge early on Thursday May 9, 2013. Our objective was to find a site at the South Campground which is first come - first served. By the time we arrived at the campground it was a mob scene with rental RVs and rental cars full of tent campers racing around frantically... More

We stayed at the South Campground April 10th & 11th with our 34' RV. Arriving after 3pm, we were in a race with a handful of others to get the last spots. We found probably the worst campsite, at the entrance intersection to the busy visitor center. It was was STILL a beautiful, tree-shaded site with views of the mountains... More

I love tent camping but would not recommend doing so for your trip to Zion. Unfortunately, unless you are back-country camping there really isn't anywhere to camp in or near the park, as I wouldn't consider pitching a tent at South Campground to be camping. Sure, you're sleeping in a tent and can build a fire, but you are elbow... More

This is a great "first come first serve" campground. I arrived late in the day and was unable to secure a Site. The next morning at 9 am and had several great sites to choose from. Site are big and most are shaded. I had a great stay and the campground is close to both the town and park shuttles.... More

We arrived to South Campground at about 11am and were able to find a number of available spots, but really lucked out when we found #71 available. It's a walk in campsite (parking spot is right across the road from the campsite) right next to the Virgin River with great views. The camping site had bushes surrounding it so we... More

We arrived early at 9 pm to reserve a campsite. Paid the fee and ate lunch for an hour at our campsite. We went hiking all day and arrived back at our campsite at 7 pm and someone took off our paid tag and took our campsite. The volunteers were unbelievably unhelpful because they use a log to record who... More

We spent 3 nights at South Campground, Zion NP, in April 2012. This is a peaceful, shady spot along the Virgin River. There are some campsites that are very close to the river, but no sites are more than a short walk away. Our stay at South was pleasant and quiet. All the campers staying there seemed to respect the... More

I must say that I loved the grounds and the fact that you are right next to the Virgin River. The campground itself is very nice. The day before we arrived I called to see if we could run the generator in the campground since there aren't any hookups and it was supposed to be 97 degrees. I spoke to... More

We stayed at the Watchman campground in May. It was the best camping experience I could remember. We had site #78 which is close to the river with a great view of the Watchman. The river was so loud you couldn't hear anybody else in the campground and sleeping was great. Get there early in the morning because there are... More

We originally had plan to stay in a hotel on Zion because of the kids, i have a 2 year old and a 3 year old. But we decided what the heck. We had the best time. It was beautiful. The River is right there. There was plenty of shade. I think spot 68 is the best, it's close to... More
