My girlfriend and I stayed there on our way to and from Wrangell St Elias National Park. The owner Patty was really really friendly, accommodating, and kind. She tipped us off to the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights one night and that night we got to see an amazing display, one of the high points of the trip.

These must be about the cheapest cabins in this area I suspect coming in at about US$75 for a double and they are pretty good. The cabins themselves are clean and comfortable and have tea and coffee making facilities in them but no bathrooms or toilets. There are a couple of long drop toilets outside near the cabins but up... More

We stayed at Golden Spruce Cabins for two nights with a group of 7 sharing one cabin. The host was very friendly and accomodating. She allowed us to put up a tent next to the cabin for no extra charge. The cabins are in good condition and clean. The little store/restraunt is nice and prices are reasonable. I thought that... I often drive between the middle of Wrangell Mountains and Anchorage. When I first discovered the Golden Spruce restaurant I was very pleased at the quality of lunches they served. So for the next couple of years I tried to time my departures to from/Anchorage so I could have lunch there. The meals were delicious. However, I guess all good... More

I started my search the year before on the internet. So I emailed Patty and got a feel for her place and her opinion. We arrived and found a very nice cabin on the edge of the National Park. Way cheaper than anything in Chitina, Kennicott, McCarthy. But within a reasonable driving distance to Kennicott. Yes, we drove out rental... More

I looked at a lot of options on the internet, seeking a place within range for pickup by the shuttle to Kennecott Mines, before choosing Golden Spruce Cabins. I almost traded the convenience of a private bath/shower at more expensive options for the charm of Golden Spruce. Our cabin was very clean and comfy, with bunk beds and a log-frame... More

The cabins are cute and reasonable (65.00). Take cash or use the ATM.

I have stayed here in the past and still continue to stay here when I head up this way. The cabins do not have a toilet or shower in them, but you can use the one in the big cabin 7a-10p every day. There is an outhouse for after hours. We spent $65 for one night, which is very reasonable.... More

As another reviewer wrote, view this as luxury camping.... No showers or toilets in cabins, but they are available in main building until 10PM. Cabins all hand-built by owners out of spruce and show the work was a labor or love. Impeccably clean - always a chancy siutation in rural Alaska. Staying here makes day trips to Chitina and McCarthy... More
