Stayed for two nights over Labor Day weekend. What a nice stay! We had a very private camp site for our tent, with lots of shrubbery and trees in between each site. For the most part, it was very quiet, which was remarkable given that it was Labor Day weekend. There was one large group of teens at one of... More

We pitched a tent in site G165. Pros: Brush provides nice privacy, mixture of sun and shade, level with little rocks or tree roots, two large trees, place to run a clothes line or hammock but not both trash bins just across the street, no generators Cons: picnic table sits under a large pine tree that drops needles and bugs,... Stayed here at the beginning of August in one of the walk-in tent sites. Nicely spaced, we were mere steps away from the Appalachian Trail, and we had a great seat for the sun set (we were in site 10b). Bathrooms were a bit of a walk (it was a walk in campsite), but they were nice. We not only... More

My takeaways: The bathroom we used was totally fine...not 5 starts, but fine. The primitive sites were awesome...totally secluded, got really quiet and dark at night. Plus boxes to put your stuff in away from the bears.

We had a nice stay at Loft Mountain Campground. We arrived early in the week in mid August and most cited were vacant. We reserved in advance but this is clearly not necessary and it meant we couldn't shop around for an idea site. But the facilities are good and we enjoyed ourselves despite rainy weather. There is a camp... More

This is our 3rd time in as many years heading to Loft Mountain. I would highly recommend getting either site A10-A or A10-B as your site, if they're not already taken. The views are amazing. The only downside to this campsite is that it is a wee bit of a drive to Big Meadows and Skyland... other than that-- and... More

Spent only one night there on our way back home but we had a great time regardless. Fantastic views, some pull-though slots much better than others in terms of space, view and proximity to neighboring camping spots. Be sure to check satellite views to get a better idea of what I mean - we lucked out and didn't have anyone... More

We had a fantastic time for our first time camping at Loft Mountain Campground this past 4th of July. I had read negative post about the Rangers and staff at this campsite. However, we had the opposite experience. The staff (Brian Noland) and camp host (Andy & Beverly) were extremely helpful and friendly. We arrived on Thursday, July 3rd and... More

We checked in on the Wednesday before the 4th of July holiday. All of the reserved areas were booked and it was first come first served for a campsite. It was no problem getting one but by the holiday, the campground was at capacity and they were turning people away. The rangers at check-in were very friendly and brought the... More

After reading all the reviews I could find on camping in Shenandoah National Park, we chose Loft Mountain Campground because of the privacy hedges between sites and the availability of showers. It was exactly what I wanted and what previous reviewers had described. An abundance of wildlife! Deer and bunnies literally everywhere... and bears! I'll address a few negative comments... More
