We stayed three nights recently (Thursday-Friday-Saturday) at Loft Mt Campground. We prefer state park and national park/forest campgrounds, because we don't need the pools and activities in the private campgrounds would rather have the quiet, rustic atmosphere of the public campgrounds. But some state/national campgrounds are better than others. We thought this one was great. It's very well designed, so... More

This was our second campground on our recent tour of Shenandoah . Having arrived at the campground we spoke with the wardens and were pointed in the direction of our pitch . Firstly , I have to say that the wardens were very friendly , knowledgeable and went out of their way to help us with a hiking route .... More

Similar to Big Meadows campground, slightly cheaper - also no water/electric/sewer hookups. We reserved two spots, but when we checked in the ranger said we would not like it as folks walked through it to get to the restrooms. He told us to drive around if we wanted to find a better spot, and he suggested a spot - which... More

This campground is fine; all the things you'd expect in a National Park, EXCEPT it turns out that there are really no "ranger programs" here during the week. For that you have to drive up to the Big Meadows campground or the other one further north. So, there is a reason that this campground is $5 cheaper than the others... More

A group of 8 people, including my husband and I, stayed here this past weekend on Friday and Saturday night. (We hiked and enjoyed the park on Saturday and Sunday.) We arrived around 9:45pm on Friday and were able to get two sites next to each other. The sites were grassy and cozy, surrounded by trees. Plenty of places of... More

Private sites, views and not the traffic of Big Meadows. Lot's of trails to hike in the area and if you are willing to do that you will see the bears. Berries are coming and we picked a half gallon in about 30 minutes. The showers at the camp store are BRAND NEW and BEAUTIFUL. You can find a site... More

There are tent only sites which are secluded and more closer to woods if you are planning to do tenting. they have walk up sites. On July 4th weekend there were sites that were vacant, so one don't need to do the advance booking or be worried that they might not get a campsite. There are ticks on the trails... More

We stayed as a foursome here. We enjoyed the campground. Bring bug spray. The good: - Lovely campsites, plenty of nice squishy grass to put tents on - The sites had lots of underbrush in between them, giving each site relative privacy - Each site had a pull-thru parking spot, making unpacking and re-packing the car easy - The camp... Loft mountain was okay as far as campgrounds go. There were a few things that disappointed me. The bathrooms were fairly far away from the tent only sites and it was a fair walk in the dark to get to them. Some of the tent sites are 150 feet or so down the side of the mountain so it's a... More

Hubby and I went here a while back. This was a great place to camp out of all the ones that seem to be grouped together up here. Most quiet and affords more privacy than the other camp grounds, for sure. There are primo spots here, for sure - but they are reserved well in advance. Loved the hike we... More
