This campground is located in the center of Skyline Drive in Shenandoah NP. It makes it easy to enjoy the park in all directions. Great place to photograph deer at sunrise/sunset. There are asl many photo ops from the many turn-offs along Skyline Drive. There is also a general store, gas station, and showers nearby.

We enjoy tent camping & this campground was wonderful. I love the separation of tent sites from the RVs. The restrooms & the shower rooms are kept very clean. The rangers & staff are very friendly & helpful. We had a great campsite-peaceful & private. We would definitely go back to this campground.

I haven't been to a nicer park in my life! If you love mountains than this is the park to see as it goes for over 100 miles. Excellent views and many overlooks to take in the scenery. Roads are well kept and cabin sites are clean. The three negatives are: Although they do a good job landscaping and making... More

We stay at Loft Mountain campground every Spring and Fall. We've never had a reservation and have never not found a site. We try to come up on a Thursday and make a long weekend of it. Be sure to bring warm clothes because the weather can and will change. The Rangers are out in force. This is because some... More

Loft Mountain Campground is a worthwhile, nice, inexpensive campground in Shenandoah National Park. We stayed at A22 which was nicely tucked away with tree and brush cover on three sides. Even though it had rained heavily for several days the ground was not soggy and we had no issues pitching our tent or walking around the site. The sites were... More

This was our first time taking our little 3 year old camping and was long past due. We booked a site over 4th of July weekend, so we were pleased to find this place wasn't booked to capacity. Check in took about 20 minutes, and then we found our spot very close to the front. We soon realized that there... More

My wife and I found this campsite and read a lot of great reviews. Unfortunately, I trusted my NAV computer and it routed me through baltimore and DC coming down from NJ. Ultimately arriving well after dark. We were constantly visited by rangers who corrected every single little nit picking thing. The fact that the rangers and law enforcement were... More

If you enjoy primitive (no electric or water hookup) camping, then this is a great spot. Our kids enjoyed the many encounters with nature (mostly deer). There is a trail to hike up to the amphitheater nearby, which is a perfect distance if you happen to have a toddler like we do. The showers are a bit of a trek... More

On a whim, we decided to drive to SNP the Sunday before Memorial Day. Crazy- I know. We left the DC area after dinner and made it to the Front Royal entrance before sunset. We figured...We would either just enjoy a beautiful sunset or...if we were lucky... we would get to enjoy a night of camping. We had called ahead... More

I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5 only because this campground is a little more off the beaten path. However, there is plenty to do around here and a lot of campers like being off the beaten path from all of the crowds. Big Meadows and Skyland are the most travelled to areas in the park, so just...
