Built in the late 1930’s, Big Meadows Lodge has some of the impressive post and beam construction characteristics of the large National Park Lodges in the western states. The lodge and associated cabins are nestled among the trees along the ridgeline. This allows for sweeping views of the valley from the large patio that runs along the length of the... More

This is a very old and rustic lodge. Most rooms are in different buildings than the main lodge. Do not expect very much and you won't be too disappointed. This lodge is good for a place to sleep and that's about it. Many of the buildings were built in the 30s and 40s and still look that way. They seem... More

Great weekend getaway. Skyline Drive is breathtaking and Big Meadows is the perfect respite. I love the feeling of camping without having to actually sleep outside on the ground. The lodge provides a nice blend of nature and nurture.

Having stayed at great National Park Lodges in the past, my husband and I wanted to experience Shenandoah by "living" in the park to add to our wonderful car trip on the beautiful Skyline Drive. The staff was friendly but incompetent, the restaurant was quite mediocre, the room was dirty with single sheets half-fitting a king-sized bed, there was no... More

The lodge has a great historic feel but do not expect luxury. This is a mountain lodge and it is a bit rustic but totally charming. The pub on the first floor has great views of the valley. The atmosphere is very relaxing. Hiking the Big Meadow at Dusk is a must, there are plenty of deer and the stargazing... More

Five of us went on a day-and-a-half trip to the Shenandoahs: my husband, myself, our young adult daughter, and my teenage niece and nephew. The young people really enjoyed the trip. We went on short hikes and to a couple of nature talks. Unexpectedly, the hotel was a big hit with everyone. My husband had made reservations for two hotel... More

Pleased that we stayed in Park overnight. Perfect spot midway on Skyline drive. Nestled in wooded area, our room had porch and view of Blue Ridge mountains. Dinner and breakfast at Meadow Lodge were delicious and satisfying. Pricey but considering location not unexpected. Virginia wine was surprisingly good too!

The lodge in well located for visiting various parts of the park; it is close to the Byrd Visitor Center and one of the amphitheaters that has evening ranger programs. We particularly enjoyed the evening entertainment in the Tap Room at the lodge.

Shenandoah National Park is a national treasure - a beautiful and relaxing place to visit that is close to the population centers of the Middle-Atlantic and Northeast. Big Meadows is a nice place to make a base for exploring the park, but… Built in 1930’s and 40’s, the rooms are old and have a rustic feel which is endearing –... More
