We have been visiting Big Meadows for several years now. We usually plan our trips in the fall, but this was our first spring visit. A variety of lodging options are available and detailed descriptions will be helpful to determine which one will work best for your family. You have to keep in mind that you are not going to... more

Staff - everyone was friendly, courteous, and helpful. Food - We ate at the Wayside before we checked in. It was average at best. We ate dinner at the Taproom which was better. We didn't feel like dropping 60-70 bucks upstairs on entrees we weren't sure about. There are some local brews to sample downstairs and a few on tap.... more

Do not trust that reservations you make at Big Meadows Lodge will be secure -- the company that secures reservations (Aramark) completely ruined our Memorial Day weekend trip. In February 2009, I had booked a 2-night stay in May 2009 at Big Meadows Lodge through the official website (Aramark). Despite our three-month advance planning, Aramark did not notify me until... more

We spent one night at the Big Meadows Lodge in the Rapidan building during early August 2008. The outer buildings, of which Rapidan is one, are two stories with entrance from the outside. We were on the bottom floor and the upstairs neighbors were quite loud, so that is something of which to be aware. We had no view (other... more

I came to the mountains to enjoy the scenery, night skies and quiet. And, I got more than what I paid for which was $95 for a Monday night stay. My husband and I take a yearly drive to Shenandoah Mountains during October but we had never stayed at or had even seen the lodge which has been at Big... more

Wonderful Shenandoah Park, the room was small comfortable and warm, but not luxurious. No TV, no 'phone, no internet, no signal - just what the doctor ordered! The lodge serves decent food at reasonable prices, but you often have to wait for a table, even when previously booked. Entertainment downstairs in the bar after dinner was superb on the 2... more

We stayed at the Lodge for two nights in September 08. The lodge itself is very nice. Clean, quaint, welcoming and in a beautiful location. We found the Park Rangers helpful and informative and the international staff on the whole very good. Where the problem lies and what would put me off either staying there again or recommending it to... more

Things started well, the main Lodge building has a lot of character and we were initially pleased with our room which was in the Rapidan building. It looked to have been recently refurbished in a country style. It also had a balcony with a nice view. A deer was grazing right outside when we arrived. The main problem was the... more

We spent the Labor Day weekend at Big Meadows Lodge, arriving Friday night and leaving Monday afternoon. Overall, we had a great stay, but we had some issues with the reservation process and dining options. We booked by phone through the reservation service in Arizona. None of the reservation agents we spoke with (and we called back many times to... more

Big Meadows Lodge has always been a slice of paradise, a family oriiented place to get back to nature. I've enjoyed this place since I was about 10. It is a rustic lodge with mountain charm, with rustic rooms and cabins - a pristine place where deer are at home, and a hike or horseback ride would bring you close... more
