Somehow I booked our reservations for the Montecito without realizing that this place is a lot more than just a place to stay for the night. We had spent the day in King's Canyon National Park and arrived at the Montecito just before 7 p.m. As we were checking in, the girl at the front counter asked if we'd eaten... More

I will echo the comments of others - this is a lodge that is oriented towards a family experience. There are lots of activities and things to do for kids and families. When I booked it I looked at the price, which is very good or even better compared to other lodges in/near the park when you consider that meals... More

I agree whole-heartedly with BryanRWA - "Know what you're looking for." This is the second trip we've taken to the Montecito Sequoia Lodge, and enjoyed both thoroughly. Before kids, my husband and I used to love to backpack and tent camp. With young kids we're almost ready to try. In the meantime, this facility has provided a nice compromise for... More

I suppose if I knew what I was getting into, I'd rate this place higher. But I was expecting a typical national park lodge experience. Perhaps not as fancy as Waksuchi, but something along those lines. Instead, I found myself at a "resort" that aims to provide a camp experience (complete with bug juice) for families. The food included in... More

Please note that the reviews seem to fall into two categories - (1) people/families who attend the week-long family camp and expect moderate lodging quality paired with a remarkable all-family experience and food that is *way* better than you'd expect given the "camping" experience (2) people/couples who book a night or two expecting a hotel-like environment with upscale lodging, restaurant-style... If you have children age two or over, you love the outdoors, and you don’t mind rustic accomodations, do yourself a favor and come to Montecito for a week in the summer. Your children will have a blast. You’ll relax with other interesting adults, play with your kids, and take home a bucket load of shared memories. Some things Montecito... More

The Montecito is a very friendly place to stay. Don't expect luxury here. It is simple and clean. People are very friendly and the food is served in the Lodge. You share large tables with other guests and help tidy up the tables. The bar is open until 9 pm and for each beer you have to get somebody from... More

Our family Just came back from a week at family camp here and already looking forward to our time here next summer. This was our third consecutive year. SOOO fun! It's everything you want from camp-great counselors, friendly people, fun activities in a gorgeous setting. My now 5 year old is always engaged in something and having a fabulous time.... More

Our family has been coming to Montecito every summer since 2003. Our first time there, we showed up frazzled with a two-year old, a four-year-old, and a seven-year-old, were immediately greeted with smiling counselors, chocolate chip cookies and lemonade, went for a walk around the lake, and things only got better from there. We left six days later, singing camp... More

My family of four has been coming to M-S's family camp for about 10 years now and just returned from our latest outing, which was the best ever. New this year--horse whispering and dance lessons. Add that to my regular favorite activities--riflery, archery, horseback riding and art lessons (usually by a professional; this week by a fellow guest who filled... More
