The lodging experience was adequate although relatively expensive for the simplicity of the furnishings. But the deal-breaker was the horrible food options. You can't have an enjoyable lodging experience without good food, and the food served to us in the Grant Grove Restaurant was warmed-over, pre-fabricated foodstuff that was barely edible. Also the premium beer selections were sold-out, and the... More

Thank you for your comments. We are sorry that your dining experiences were disappointing. We do agree with you that a nice lodging experience should be coupled with a nice dining experience. Shortly after taking over the concession in late 2013, we recognized the need to improve the restaurant quality and staffing levels. Our first priority was to renovate the... More

Big trees, lush meadows, nice trails abound in the area and this property is very close to all the above. The room rate is a bit expensive but the proximity to the park is well worth it. We went birding and were pleased with the variety of species found.

This lodge sits in Kings Canyon National Park, which makes it very convenient. There is a lobby area with free wifi in it. You might be able to pick up the signal in your room if you have a Laptop. The connection is weak with a rate of .3 Mbps. The room interior is nice and simplistic. Includes an HDTV... More

John Muir Lodge is within walking distance of the General Grant tree. Trails lead through the trees for a very nice, easy walk. The hotel rooms are basic, but nice, clean and comfortable. The windows have screens, so that - in the Spring and Summer - you can leave the windows open and listen to all the birds waking up... More

I didn't expect such nice accommodations for a national park so high up in the mountains. Our room was modern, clean, and comfortable. The log building was modern yet fit nicely in the beautiful natural setting. And we were located very close to the village restaurant, gift shop, market, and visitors center. I hope that I can return again some... More

We are day hikers and we love the national parks. We also like to stay in the park. Our room was nice and clean and had plenty of room. It was the basic. Overall the lodge was nice. We liked the common areas, plenty of room to relax after a day with the big trees.

Nice parking and beautiful surrounding scenery. Only problems, no microwaves and no wifi except in the lobby. Be careful going to the lobby at night as doors to outside are usually unlocked and non-guests can be found sleeping on furniture.

It was a nice quiet lodge about a 1 hour drive to the gorgeous King's Canyon area. The bed was comfortable, but the bathroom had a musty odor when we first checked in. If you want a more modern lodge, I would recommend the Wuksachi Lodge in Sequoia. There was a power outage at the time of our dinner, so... More

The room was large and well furnished, including a nice big flat-screen. The king bed was very comfortable. We had a delicious fried chicken meal and some local beers at the restaurant. All of the staff were friendly and helpful.

Had a room with two queen beds and a fridge. Comfortable and clean. The common room/lobby had a strong smoke odor, really the only drawback to mention. When there's a fireplace, some odor is to be expected, of course, but this was more than I'm used to. There is a porch/deck with chairs, a bench swing and a nice view.... More
