When staying in a NP I always go into it expecting the least and hoping for more. Muir Lodge is a newer building and the rooms were surprisingly big. Also had internet access in the lobby/sitting area. Food options in Grant Grove are expensive and limited. Only stayed 1 night but if I had more time would definitely stay here... more

We've stayed at many national park lodges and cabins before and knew to expect the accommodations might be 'rustic'. In fact the John Muir Lodge is quite modern compared to most having been built in 2000 (per a plaque on the building). We had a quite large room with 2 queens. The furnishing was a little sparse and the lights... more

No need to hype the location--couldn't be better. But the rooms are poorly furnished, poorly attended, and poorly lighted. Our group had two rooms and we all had the same general complaints. 1. Sinks and showers drained very, very slowly. 2. Towels were tissue thin. 3. One toilet was completely missing a seat lid. 4. Housekeeping was very poor: used... more

We did not expect much, but we were surprised, the rooms were large and very clean. However kids ran up and down the halls for about an hour after quite time. Besides that nice stay for the price and location more

My wife and I stayed here, at Grant Grove, for the second time recently, not because we thought it so great 3 or 4 years before when there, but because there seemed to be no real alternative which suited the limited time we had and where we wanted to visit in the park. Having been before, we knew to expect... more

Our room was very spacious and the king bed was huge. The scenery was beautiful epecially the amount of snow still on the ground. Would have perferred to have a fridge for our own stuff considering the limited eating options in the immediate area. But for lodging in the middle of a forest, I found it to be a very... more

The bad reviews may be overdone. John Muir Lodge is a nice, clean, retreat-type small lodge in Grant Grove Village. I think Grant Grove is the nicer of the two main populated areas of the Kings Canyon/Sequoia parks (The other is Lodgepole which was just teeming with people and crowds, and the parking lots were jammed full when we went--I... more

We spent two nights at The John Muir Lodge in August 2007. We had been expecting it to be very rustic and basic - we were not proved wrong. We had requested a non-smoking room but when we opened the door we were greeted by the smell of stale cigarette smoke. The window had been left opened and a fan... more
