You are not near anything but that is why you go to an island in the middle of Lake Superior. Lodge rooms comfortable with balcony overlooking the lake. WiFi not practical so shut it off. You will survive unplugged. Good trails start there but be careful on the Tobin Harbor/3 mile crossover . Long narrow boardwalk can be challenging. The... More

Keeping in mind that this is a historic, remote lodge in a national park, I was very pleased. Understand, this is not the Ritz Carlton. That is not why you go to Isle Royale. The room was clean with outstanding views. We were going to hike across the island when the sole fell off my husband's hiking boot. His hiking... More

Your choices are a room at the lodge, cabin room (aka Housekeeping cabin), tent and/or shelter. The lodge and cabins are pricey, but necessary as one in our group ;^) is not a happy camper. Both the lodge and Housekeeping cabins are operated by the same company. Two or three nice day hikes are easily available (4-6 miles). There is... More

If you want to stay in a room on Isle Royale, this is your only choice. The lodge has rooms along the shore of Lake Superior (where we stayed) and housekeeping cabins near Tobin Harbor. 99% of this island is Federal Wilderness, so the lodge is what you'd expect. Rustic but warm and comfortable with rooms at the water's edge... More

You don't come to Isle Royale to be pampered, so don't come expecting 5 star service. This is a camping place first and foremost, and the lodges are meant to be a couple steps up from that. We had a housekeeping cabin, number 204, and it overlooked beautiful Tobin Harbor. It was fantastic, perfect for our needs. There was a... More

We are National Park people and have visited 26 parks. You really have to want to visit Isle Royale. We drove 1000 miles then took the 7 hr boat trip from Grand Portage. We stayed at the Rock harbor lodge and when we stepped out in our private deck over looking Lake Superior we knew the trip was well worth... More

The lodge was excellent. My friend requested the first floor which we were happy to get. Strangely, the second floor has easier access to the outdoor path. So, if easy access to the room is your request, then book the second floor. Our room sat atop Lake Superior. We kept the door and windows open during the night to hear... More

After the 4-hour ferry ride out to Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior we didn't know what to expect from our lodge and restaurant in such a remote area. We were pleasantly surprised with both. Our lodge room was comfortable with a beautiful view overlooking Lake Superior. The morning sunrise was breathtaking. There are actually two restaurants, one more... More

On our boat ride back from Isle Royale the captain told us that, although Isle Royale is the least-visited of all national parks in America, it is the most re-visited in per capita terms. It's easy to see why since this is America the beautiful, unspoiled by the excesses of modern day civilization. Unfortunately, the price to visit is expensive... More

We stayed here 2 nights during a 2 week trip to Lake Superior. The cabins (and lodge) are expensive, no doubt about it, but I thought they were wonderful. We made our reservations about 5 months in advance are got a cabin overlooking the lake. We stayed in cabin 204 and the view is simply outstanding. The cabin is very... More
