Tired from a final leg if our backpacking trip, soaked from rain, and finding all the sheltered camping options taken and crowded, my wonderful husband rented a housekeeping cabin for our last night on Isle Royale. It was wonderful. The cabins are spacious and quiet. The staff were great. It made our last day relaxing. I would plan this extra... More

I initially wrote my review under "Rock Harbor" as this didn't come up. Anyway, even though Isle Royale was boring and not as scenic as we had hoped, Rock Harbor Lodge was quite lovely. We had a very nice room with a walk out patio, overlooking Lake Superior. No towels in the room, but we soon fixed that, and the... More

We landed on the Island at 11:30 am and we were able to access our rooms by Noon. There is a small restaurant and grill next door. The food was excellent and not overly expensive. We took day hikes and came back for a great hot shower, relaxing on our balcony with a gook book and inevitably a nap. Fabulous... More

As a child, my parents took my sister and I to Isle Royale for an unforgettable trip. Now, over 35 years later, I recently visited Isle Royale again with my family. With a 10 year old and 6 year, we stayed three nights at the Rock Harbor Lodge. The rooms were comfortable, and the setting of the rooms couldn't be... More

My wife and I just returned from an action-packed 3-day trip to Isle Royale. We stayed at a house keeping cottage operated by Rock Harbor Lodge. There are neat, clean, have bed sheets/pillows, and kitchen set-up for you to cook (no oven, but have stove top and microwave) including pots, pans, and utensils. If veggies, fruits, and other healthy foods... More

I just returned from a two night stay at the Lodge. Room is motel-style with an excellent view. When booking, be sure to ask for a room on the lower-level of the lodge as these rooms include a balcony with two Adirondack chairs. Room was clean, other than some grout in the shower that could've used a good bleaching. It... More

The Rock Harbor Lodge is literally on the shores of Lake Superior. If you say here, make sure to request a first floor room so you have a patio. The second floor rooms do no have this option. When you walk out onto the deck, you look down and there's the water lapping up on the shore beneath your feet.... More

You are not near anything but that is why you go to an island in the middle of Lake Superior. Lodge rooms comfortable with balcony overlooking the lake. WiFi not practical so shut it off. You will survive unplugged. Good trails start there but be careful on the Tobin Harbor/3 mile crossover . Long narrow boardwalk can be challenging. The... More

Keeping in mind that this is a historic, remote lodge in a national park, I was very pleased. Understand, this is not the Ritz Carlton. That is not why you go to Isle Royale. The room was clean with outstanding views. We were going to hike across the island when the sole fell off my husband's hiking boot. His hiking... More

Your choices are a room at the lodge, cabin room (aka Housekeeping cabin), tent and/or shelter. The lodge and cabins are pricey, but necessary as one in our group ;^) is not a happy camper. Both the lodge and Housekeeping cabins are operated by the same company. Two or three nice day hikes are easily available (4-6 miles). There is... More
