For the location it was worth it. You have to plan ahead when traveling on Big Island if you are doing activities on Kona or Hilo side. This is located on Hilo side. Perfect location for visiting Volcano National Park. Rained every day we were there. Need light waterproof jackets and warm clothes for night. Stores were closed every night... More

Our family of four stayed in three areas on the Island and KMC was one. It was by far the worst! The ancient accommodations are very, very small and I have not had a worst sleep in a mattress in a long time - rock hard and a tiny bed for two adults. Communication here is terrible, as one of... We had a nice experience at KMC. If you have the connections to stay here, this is a great place to stay while visiting Volcanoes National Park. Note that it is called a camp for a reason. The accommodations are basic but clean and warm in the wet, chilly climate. The amenities are pretty basic but functional. This is a... More

Even before staying here we had awful trouble trying to make a booking. Our uncle was sponsoring us and we are all from the UK. They never responded to emails and there was some form of problem so it seemed to take ages to actually get a room booked and if it wasn't for the Facebook site and emailing over... More

My teenage girls, my spouse and another couple shared a three bedroom suite on the back side of KMC. The accommodations were clean and updated, if not high design. One note about the location--being on the windward side of Mauna Loa, and at high altitude, be prepared for cool, wet weather. If sun is your objective, you may want to... More

We have been to the Camp before. It is really cool. However, this time, we found some issues. The room was adequate, although old. We had an apartment. My husband who is 100% service connected disabled got into the shower in the morning. It was a tub with a shower but there was no slip resistant strip in the tub... More

This military recreational center is managed by the renowned Hale Koa Hotel and shows it. The historic property includes period lodging for those who qualify. Its location cannot be beat! You're in the middle of fabulous Hawaii Volcanoes National Park! A short drive and you're on the Chain of Craters road, through a wonderland of volcanic sights. The Camp includes... More

On the rim of the crater, can't beat the location. Minutes from everything in the park. The rooms need to be refurbished but work. 60's carpet and counters, cool but not. Plenty of space in the hotel with multiple beds and rooms. There is a general store next door, so shopping was easy without traveling all the way back to... More

We stayed in a one bedroom cottage at the Kilauea Military Camp. The price was very reasonable for the accommodations. The furniture is slightly old, but comfortable. There were two TVs and free wifi, a microwave and mini fridge. The bathroom did have some mold issues above the shower, likely due to the high humidity. There is a real wood... More

we had cabin 20 which was built of lava rock. it has all the essentials, but is very basic and outdated for sure. The fireplace is a really nice touch. There is a mini fridge and microwave and mini coffee pot; we made-do. My husband said he feels "most at home" at Military Camp. There is a nice coffee shop... More
