It is an absolute must to reserve a room at this lodge months in advance. If you're expecting to just walk in and get a room chances are you'll be disappointed. Xanterra is the only company that reserves rooms for this lodge so you'll have to pay whatever it is they charge at the time for a room. We paid... more

The Thunderbird Lodge is on the rim of the Grand Canyon and that, by itself, is reason to stay there. And when I say "on the rim" I mean about 30 feet from the front door to the very edge of the Canyon. The rooms are fairly large and comfortable, but nothing that will stay in your mind forever. That's... more

We were not disappointed with the location of the Thunderbird Lodge but the room was on the small side for the 3 of us and somewhat dark. Our only problem was with housekeeping(room not clean) and after a couple of phone calls, that was rectified. The food at the Bright Angel restaurant was very good, both for breakfast and dinner.... more

We stayed here one night as part of a Globus tour. The location cannot be beat. The hotel is located right on the path going around the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. From right outside the hotel you can get a wonderful view of the canyon while feeling safe (there is a stone wall along the path here). We... more

We stayed in a 2nd floor room of the Thunderbird Lodge. We had previously stayed in the Grand Canyon 2 years prior at Maswik. Both experiences had problems. The Thunderbird Lodge is in a great location right on the rim within walking distance of shops, restaurants, sights, ranger programs and more. However, our room had several problems with the AC... more

There is no other way to see the Grand Canyon than to stay inside the National Park. We had a great time walking the rim with no pressure from the tourists getting pictures. Sunset and Sunrise was amazing. We did a helicopter tour the next day but I highly recommend staying at this hotel. It's nothing glamorous but it captures... more

We stayed at the Thunderbird Lodge for three nights in early July 2008. The room itself, as one would expect, was not luxurious by any means, but was sufficient. The bathroom actually was nicer than those in other National Park lodges we've stayed at, but the bedroom area was a little more run-down. But you are not coming here for... more

We stayed for two nights at the end of May. It was your typical hotel room, but with a spectacular view. It was clean, which is my main concern. We were on the first floor with an unobstructed view of the canyon, including nice windows that actually open so you can let that great fresh air in! Its more than... more

This lodge was an entirely average place to stay and fairly expensive, all things considered. However, if you want to stay right at the Grand Canyon and be able to roll out of bed and have a great view, then this place is good enough. At least the beds were comfortable and it wasn't too noisy. more

Wow, it looked just the the pictures I'd seen. We had a partial view, as requested. The Grand Canyon is amazing. The only 2 problems, which did not at all distract from our great time, was that the safe in our room didn't lock, and there was noone there on the day we arrived to fix it. The other things... more
