Hotel is located conveniently ahead of just checking into the Grand Canyon entrance. It's located directly next to the South Rim, so no matter the view, it's always going to be breathtaking. Getting up at 6AM is worth it to just see the Grand Canyon in all it's splendid glory as the sun rises. Hotel offers all the basic amenities... more

I have been dying to go for years, and we finally got the chance to go to the Canyon, which you really need to see in person. The photos are amazing, but being there is just magical. We were in the Grand Canyon for only 1 1/2 days and stayed at Thunderbird Lodge, next door to El Tovar. We arrived... more

We lucked into a same day opening at the Thunderbird Lodge during a recent trip to the Grand Canyon. The rooms are standard hotel rooms, probably updated 5-10 years ago clean, but sure nothing fancy. There is a small fridge and coffee maker. The seller is the Canyon right outside your window. You can see the color changes, clouds, stars,... more

My wife and two kids (10 and 12) spent two nights t the Grand Canyon in April. We wanted to stay in the park and on the rim. Thunderbird Lodge was all that was available. That said, we had a pleasant stay and the room was above average. We were expecting a run down, motel type of experience and were... more

We stayed one night with our Caravan tour. You cannot beat the location! The canyon rim is just a few yards from your back door. The room was nice. The El Tovar next door has a very nice restaurant and the Bright Angel also has a nice restaurant. more

We were initially trying to stay at Bright Angel Lodge, but it was all booked. Looking back, I'm really happy that it was. You have to check-in at Bright Angel and the next building over is Thunderbird. We were greeted by a very friendly and informative concierge. He gave us Canyon trail maps, hiking tips, and suggested other attractions to... more

We choose this hotel because it is directly located at the south rim which is very nice. The hotel itself is pretty much standard but OK. Minor negative points that it is quite noisy : some quests go hiking early in the morning and you really hear them leave. Also housekeeping starts early and is noisy too. So you won't... more

We stayed at Thunderbird Lodge for two nights. It was the last room available when I called two weeks prior to the trip (at least that's what they said). We checked-in at the Bright Angel Lodge, quick and easy. I really liked the room. It is indeed a little bit expensive ($170 per night), but it was very clean and... more

We were at this hotel for one night..problems are there are not parking places and you must cirle around endlessly till you find a spot. Then hotel has no elevators. Our outside walkway was so dark I was using my cell phone for light. Room, Motel 6 all the way.. We had just left Las Vegas at the Bellagio and... more

My wife and I stayed here on our 30th Anniversary trip. The location is the best of all the in-park lodging. We had a canyon view but it was much easier to walk outside and see the canyon directly. The room was large and comfortable. The hallway is drab and dark and the TV only had a few channels and... more
