National park hotels are always pricey for what you get - you're paying for the location and you're dealing with a government monopoly provider. That considered I would stay at Kachina again and choose it over El Tovar for room size and views. Kachina is a motel style accommodation with no services. It's two minutes walk to el tovar and... The best part of staying at this hotel was the proximity to the South Rim and all the hiking trails. We have booked it last minute, because all the other options around the rim were already booked. The hotel had clean sheets and clean enough room, but no thrills and frills. The decoration in the hotel was rather depressing. Also,... More

My boyfriend and I were traveling from MA for a wedding and had a few days to visit the Grand Canyon. The lodge looked like one of the nicer ones and we had a view of the grand canyon from the room which was breath-taking but trying to find decent food was very difficult. We tried eating at the Arizona... More

The prior reviews are accurate. You can't beat the location, at the rim. We had a "partial view" room on the second floor. The rooms are nothing special, pretty dated with a tiny bathroom and threadbare towels but for about $200 per night, it was a decent value. We had a package that included breakfast at Bright Angel Lodge. We... More

We booked a room with the South Rim view of the Grand Canyon in November 2014. But we regret paying the extra buck for the view because we are out of the room before sunrise and return to the room exhausted that we did not even get the chance to enjoy the view out the window. At the end of... More

We had a nice stay at the Kachina. Check-in is at El Tovar, and the front desk staff there was excellent and helpful. The Kachina is next door, but because of how the hotels are oriented, and because signage is so subtle, it is a bit awkward to find. Our basic room was very nice. It is smallish, but well... More

We have learned that the trick to booking these sold-out U.S. park properties which are run by the Xantera company is persistence. They all report being completely sold out (no doubt booked up by groups and travel companies), but rooms get released and canceled all the time; you just have to keep checking their web site (which refreshes every 15... We drove out to the canyon and stayed one night at this lodge. Very nice room with an incredible view of the canyon. We checked in after dark, but woke up and opened the blinds to see the canyon for the first time. The bathroom was updated with nice tile backsplash and included a heater. The room came with a... We just stayed one night at the Kachina Lodge early Jan 2015--tip--get a rim view room, second floor!! Our room was 6347 for reference. Approx $200 for the winter night, room had two queens, mini fridge, microwave (?), and a nice bathroom. Also had a Keurig--my fav hotel feature these days. I loathe old school coffee hotel pots. We had... More
