As many have said, location is great–South rim only mere feet away. The second floor provides a view. However, the less than 20 yard walk is the true view. When we first entered the room, I thought very small for the price. But as we discovered there were some fine amenities including an extremely comfortable bed and a Keurig coffee... More

Don't expect luxury staying at Thunderbird - El Tovar would clearly be a more comfortable stay. But what it doesn't have in terms of comfort it makes up for with location - avoiding the two hour drive from outside the Park is a must and the lodge is clean comfortable if basic. Dining options are reasonable - El Tovar is... More

Gratified to say this was one place that exceeded my expectations from what I had heard. The room was fresh and decorated to a good standard, and while the building itself is 'of its time'...ie, the 1970's at a guess, it was maintained well enough. Rooms were perfectly comfortable, and there was a choice of places to eat just a... More

The internet photos and information do not do the Thunderbird Lodge justice. From the outside it looks ordinary but inside is cosy, comfortable, clean and has everything you could need including a coffee-pod machine. Rooms on the second floor have views of the canyon. Rooms are well equipped, toasty warm with comfy beds. Best of all the location is awesome... More

Location location location. This place is right on the rim and if you have a second floor room you can see right in to the Canyon. Room was clean and had good access to restaurants. We have a 2 and 4 year old. Next to the hotel there was no wall separating the path from the cliff so we definitely... More

After years of hoping to visit the Grand Canyon and booking accommodation over then phone 6 months ahead of time, when we arrived we were told the only room available was a handicap room on the main floor instead of a second floor room with a view we requested. After one night in the handicap room we we're old we... More

Thank you for your comments on your stay at the Thunderbird Lodge. The building were built in the 70s, but recently received a major renovation. I am disappointed that you found the staff to be less than helpful, as we stress the importance of customer service in all of our operations. I am forwarding your comments to the Rooms Director... The thunderbird has rooms on two floors right on the rim and rim trail of the Grand Canyon. The rooms have partial views of the canyon which was nice to see. Better yet, you could walk out and a few feet to the trail and walk and see as much as you would like of the colors and depth of... More

We got the room plus the sunset tour package but we actually missed the tour cos our flight into vegas was delayed and we didn't realise the arizona time difference too. Sigh. Managed to switch to the sunrise tour for the next morning and we did not regret it. The tour brought us to trails which were not accessible by... More

Spent two nights in a room with two queen beds on the first floor with a view of the Grand Canyon. Check in is at the adjacent Bright Angel Hotel lobby. Hotel does not have a restaurant but restaurant is located next door and the El Tovar dining room is a 2 minute walk on the rim. Parking is tight,... More

We stayed for one night at the Thunderbird Lodge, which is run by the Angel Lodge/Xenterra and is located within the Grand Canyon National Park. The room itself was very small. It was quiet and clean (with the exception of water spots on the glasses). But the view makes up for that! If you can, get a room on the... More
