We stayed one night at the Thunderbird. It is right on the rim of the Grand Canyon, We had a partial view, and it was just fine. You pay a high price for anything at the Grand Canyon, and it was really convenient to literally be right off the rim. The rooms were clean, and we were on the top... More

Thank you for your comments on our Thunderbird Lodge. I am glad to hear you enjoyed the room and that you found it clean and comfortable. Recent renovations to this lodge and Kachina Lodge next door have certainly enhanced the guest experience. And, you can't beat the location. I will send your comments on the signage and the pillow to... More

Sitting right on the edge of one of the most amazing scenic views in the world, it seems a little harsh to be complaining around a very basic room. To be fair, you don't spend a lot of time in your room when surrounded by such stunning views. We were unhappy with a couple of things. Firstly, we didn't see... More

Thank you for your comments on your stay at Thunderbird Lodge. We in fact recently renovated the rooms, with improved closets, carpet, paint, and all new soft goods, so surprised you found the room dated. The reservationist should have advised you where to check in, and I think it might be on the confirmation but will check. I apologize you... More

The Thunderbird Lodge was a pleasant place to stay at the Grand Canyon South Rim. It looked a bit like a 60's vintage motel, but inside it was well kept and clean. Our room had a partial view of the Canyon, which was better and closer than we ever thought. The rooms were a bit cramped for 3 of us,... More

Outstanding experience! We stayed at the lower level, but still had an amazing view of the Grand Canyon. The hotel is close to El Tovar and right on the rim of the Grand Canyon. The staff was really friendly and funny and made our stay a really special experience, we traveled in September and by that time they could have... More

We got our reservations for a Canyon View room at the Thunderbird Lodge 10 months in advance. It was totally worth it. The Thunderbird Lodge (administered by the Bright Angel Lodge next door) looks like a 60's dorm on the outside. But inside we have a view of the canyon. The rooms are very comfortable, with free wifi, a keurig... More

We loved our stay in Thunderbird Lodge. From the outside this hotel looks very uninspiring - big concrete block!! But the room was perfect, gorgeous decor, huge huge bed, tiny but perfect bathroom with lots of toiletries, lots of tea and coffee choices, it was great. We didn't have a canyon view room but this didn't matter. The hotel was... More

In spite of the walking required and problems breathing with the high altitude, our stay--to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary--in the South Rim of the Canyon was fantastic. Memories were definitely made, and our room in the Thunderbird was wonderful. Even though the rooms facing the Canyon were already booked, we were still happy with our accommodations. The room and... Very basic room in a Lodge that is made from cinder blocks that costs 200 per night. We had a "view" room but the view was mostly blocked by trees. It was like stay I imagine in a Super 8 or something along those lines at a ridiculous price. Would have gladly paid more to stay at El Tovar.

Thank you for your comments on our Thunderbird Lodge, We recently invested in a major room renovation, and I am surprised you did not find them updated and fresh. The trees have indeed grown over the years, but are not trimmed to facilitate better views. I hope you will return and are able to enjoy the historic El Tovar. More

A dream come true to stay on the rim of the grand canyon. Three best friends on vacation and a last minute booking. We got up early for the sunrise which we almost missed but it was beautiful. The room was beautiful and plenty of media plugs etc. coffee pot in the room . We had great food at the... More

Thank you for your comments on our Thunderbird Lodge. I am glad to read that you enjoyed the room and the meal at the Bright Angel Lodge. The rooms have been recently renovated, and you can't beat the location. All National Parks are concerned about maintaining a low level of outside lighting to maintain a dark sky environment, but we... More

Stayed for one night and we looked on to a road, had a lot of noise from above and also a terrible whirring noise from ?? a generator all night. Also no kettle and when we asked were told a blunt 'no'....only hotel on a 3 week road trip who responded in this way! Maybe worth paying and staying if... More
