After much research here and other sites, I tried for a cabin at Bright Angel Lodge but it was booked out. With El Tovar being renovated, I definitely wanted rim edge accommodation and decided on Thunderbird, being next to Bright Angel. While the building is rather 1960s, the rooms are up to date, if not flash, comfortable, and yes, there... More

This place provides you a bed; shelter and place to take a shower. I would state: that is where it stops. Of course, if this is the expectation, this place is a place to advise. The rooms and batchrooms are clean and provide the features on the basic level which is required to have a quite night.

Our family of three was more than happy with our room in the Thunderbird Lodge. We could not have been closer to the canyon rim and the proximity to all the restaurants and shuttles was ideal. The beds were very comfortable, best national park beds ever, and the other amenities were just fine. Having an aggressive in room recycling program... More

This is a dated lodge situated right at the rim. Our $215/rm afforded us no view. As others have mentioned, parking is a huge issue. We drove around the loop a few times and managed to find one. Check in is at Bright Angel Lodge. If you can't find parking, unload your gear at Thunderbird lodge which is just before... More

Our expectations were really low before we arrived to Thunderbird Lodge. Knowing the location and the price (US$ 209 plus tax) we expected a run-down motel-style hotel. As we arrived to the neighboring Lodge for check in we already found out that parking is an issue. Anyway we managed and drove back to Thunderbird Lodge. And - what a surprise... More

Rooms at this hotel are reasonably nice with a good amount of space and the shower and bathroom is nice and clean. A major downfall on the experience of staying at the Grand Canyon the parking. When you pay so much for your room you would expect to be able to get a park, my friend and I (both females)... More

Our "partial canyon" view had me thinking we would be seeing the canyon from a corner but no, we were simply on the ground floor of a 2-story lodge and yes, we were facing the canyon! Was awesome! Our room with two queens was older but refreshed. Nice fridge, amenities and the only thing lacking was a microwave. Very clean,... More

We spent two nights at Thunderbird Lodge in March 2014. Three of us in an accessible, first-floor room. The view of the canyon was terrific; probably 50 feet from our window. With this accessible room, we had a "back door" as well that led directly to the canyon rim trail - very convenient. Supervisor came by to ask whether all... More

Great view of the Canyon on the South rim. Rooms are dark, old, but clean and beds were comfortable. Small Fridges and Keurig individual coffee makers in room. VERY VERY hard to find parking places, No help with luggage and we did not see an elevator-though I am sure there was one. 3 restaurants in walking distance which is a... More

We traveled to the Canyon July 2013 and stayed at the Thunderbird. We're a family of four (2 teenage boys) needed 1 room with 2 beds - 2 Nts. Yes, parking is indeed a pain. Just cross your fingers! Check-in was fast enough. I was Pleasantly surprised. Our room was nice and clean. Stayed on 2nd floor. I, like most... More
