I have also done the huts/chalets in the mountains of New Hampshire. This place is cleaner and I like the fact the rooms have visual privacy (though not audible privacy, you can hear everything going on). The food is average, vs the super delicious food in new Hampshire huts. Staff is incredibly bubbly and friendly. Once up here, definitely hike... More

My wife and I hiked and spent the night at the Chalet August 17, 2015. The temperature was around 55 degrees for most of the hike, which was perfect. I thought it might be too cold but it was just right. The last mile is the hardest, which is always the case. The next time we will go up and... More

It was a LONG, HOT hike on August 3, 2015 but we finally made it. We were a group of four women in our 50's. None of us really "work out" but we're healthy. We read that the "average" hike up is 4.5 hours but we want to know who is capable of that. It took us over four hours... More

Once in a lifetime experience for me. Really glad I stayed at Sperry Chalet and will never forget it. Would recommend to anyone who loves the outdoors and is adventurous. Not for everyone though. You need to be in good physical condition to make the hike up. It took my wife and I 5 hours as we took our time... More

Staying in a place without electricity and showers isn't for me. But this was worth an exception. Hiking up the hill from Lake McDonald was really tough and just a bunch of trees. It sounds like the way to do this hike is to come in from Gunsight Pass, which is much more scenic. Then head down to Lake McDonald.... More

1) you're not paying for comfort, you're paying for the experience and the location 2) trust the staff when they say the walls are thin (complimentary earplugs are useful) 3) talk to the staff, they're fun and engaging themselves If you're staying multiple nights and not planning on doing day hikes out of there (or are restricted by fires like... We hiked to the Sperry Chalet via the Floral Park traverse route from Logan's Pass.. The route was absolutely gorgeous, had the most incredible views and fields on fields of wild flowers.. Would not recommend to an inexperienced hiker, very remote and challenging, but well worth it for us! Our arrival at the Chalet was met with a large pitcher... More

Sperry Chalet is a rustic shelter in which to rest after a long hike. If you understand that and appreciate what goes along with staying in a place without electricity or an indoor bathroom, you will love it. The outhouses, btw, were among the cleanest I've ever seen. No smell whatsoever. The rooms are charming, but everyone can hear everyone... More

Highly recommended if you can get a reservation. I ranged only 4 stars for value since the food was perfectly decent, but not amazing gourmet. Other comments: plenty of blankets for a cold night, amazing scenery (though Granite Park is better), goats all over the place. Beware if they have orange spots those are from paintballs for bad behavior, so... More

We were originally planning to take the Gunsight Pass Trail to the Sperry Chalet, but had to change our plans due to areas still snow covered at the end of July. Instead, we hiked up the Sperry Trail (from Lake McDonald Lodge). The beginning of the 6.7 mile trail is very steep, then it levels off in the middle, before... More
