We stayed at the McKinley Village Lodge for two nights. Our only problem was FINDING this property. There is no sign on the main highway. It is located directly behind the Denali River Cabins. This property has just opened a much larger lodge with a new dining room, coffee shop and bar. They have wireless internet available in the lobby... more
This hotel/lodge is somewhat of a paradox. First, the rooms. Our room was in a new building and was very nice. Lots of room with a nice balcony. I have heard others say they had a great view of the parking lot which is what we had. However, our friends had a room across the hall and they had a... more
The McKinley Village Lodge is eight miles from the entrance to Denali National Park and Glitter Gulch where the rest of the lodging, restaurants, and shopping is for Denali. The Lodge does have it's own shuttle in case you don't have a car. Although the shuttle runs every 1/2, the problem is that with 12 tour buses there at a... more
The McKinley Village was nice for the simple fact of being out away from the park entrance. At the entrance "Glitter Gulch" it is a little too commercialized for me. As far as the distance from the park to the hotel, I thought it was of no concern. The shuttles run regularly and are on time within 5-10 minutes. The... more
An itenary planner booked us in here for our vacation. I guess when they say location is everything is true. This was one of our more expensive accomodations but far from the best. First off the entrance sign is poorly marked. The rooms overlook a busy unpaved parking lot where large buses were parked. The rooms did not have air... more
Good things: better than average food, nice staff, good-sized room Not-so-good things: beds are cement-like, a bit far from the park's entrance Other: there was no water available until late in the evening after an early afternoon check-in. Front desk staff/management were unprepared and unresponsive; they did not go beyond "I'm sorry" to remedy the lack of water (no shower,... more
The location is about 8 miles from the shops and park entrance, but an efficient shuttle service overcomes any difficulty. The room was very comfortable. There is a coffee bar that has breakfast sandwiches, fast and economical. Or you can choose the full service restaurant. This hotel has a large lobby, gift shop and all the normal services one would... more
Stayed here as part of a Holland America CruiseTour. Originally had reservations @overbooked McKinley Chalet, but offered attractive incentive to stay here instead. Good Choice! Even though we had to wait about 2 hours for our room to be cleaned, it was worth it. We left our bags in our room not ready for us, told the housekeeper we were... more
outrageously expensive room with a view of the parking lot. Tour buses coming and going all night sometimes until 3am. Many after 11pm. crowded lobby area-no seats available to hang out in the central room due to hordes of tours arriving and departing. Room cleanliness fair. Beds very uncomfortable with plastic sheeting and 100% polyester sheets-scratchy and thin. No air... more
