It was free, but TOO FAR from everything in the park, view is meh, and most importantly, it was just a field of gravel. Lots of crows, too, so you better watch out for your food and garbage. Don't think you're saving money by staying at a free campground, because it's a long drive (gas).

I've been in this park in July 2015. This is nice park. Ofcouse you can't compare this park and Zion. However, I found many beautiful places here. The views are great, but you must enjoy them from a parking lot. There are no fire pits or picnic tables. There are restrooms and the location near Furnace Creek Villiage is convenient. It can be hot and quite dusty. Only alternative at Furnace Creek Village this spring (2012) for RVs as Furnace Creek is closed for repair.
