I spent a lot of time online looking at Google maps trying to pick out the perfect campsite and I think this one came pretty close. Pro: close to toilets, but not so close that you can smell them, pull-through driveway (we have 2 cars), enough room for 1-2 tents and maybe even a third adjacent to the driveway (we... More

We stayed in the "B" loop of the South Rim Campground. We knew when we made the reservation that it was electric only, which was fine, but as I was looking at the map for water, came to find that while there is LIMITED drinking water, there is no water available to fill tanks at the park nor a dump station.... The South End campground is great for all types of camping from tents to large RV;s. We camped in loop B which has electric hook ups for our 32 foot 5th wheels. The sites are secluded with wild life wandering through - mainly deer. They didn't seem at all afraid of our lab who, of course, was restrained at all... More

A bit off the beaten path, Black Canyon Nat'l Park in general was really cool! I loved that it was quieter and less populated here than many of the other Nat'l Parks. We saw a deer within our first ten minutes of being there as we set up our tent and proceeded to see at least 5 more (including fawns)... More

Loved the privacy we had in our spot. The campground is set up really nicely with good shade and not too close to other spots. We rode our bikes to the visitors center and took in a couple evening ranger talks. This is a nice inexpensive way to spend a couple nights in a quiet, scenic place.

This was our first visit to the Black Canyon and I did research to discover that loop B not only had electric, but could be reserved! We found the campground plenty spacious for our pop-up and observed very large RVs staying in loop B. The campground was quiet and clean. We even had deer that would get as close as... More

We camped one night on Loop C, spot 29 which was fairly close to the water and toilets. There was someone in the site next to us but there were enough trees between us that it still felt private (even though we could hear them moving about and getting in and out of their car). The campsite was big enough... More

We stayed two nights in a reserved campsite in loop A. Nice privacy between sites, easy access to fresh water and toilets. Super clean, non-yucky bathrooms. Walked right over to Ampitheater for evening ranger program. Black Canyon is a low-key park with friendly staff and well maintained facilities. Would definitely return!

We stayed here in October 2012 in our VW Vanagon camper. Glad we were not in a tent as it was really cold and windy, but I guess that is to be expected at over 8000ft elevation in the fall. Campground facilities were rudimentary to say the least, no washrooms and at this time of year only one pit toilet... More

The four of us camped for two nights at this campground. The camp sites and vault toilets were all very well maintained. Please note that there are no restaurant facilities in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park; however, Montrose has many food options and is only 15-20 minutes away. Six deer visited our campsite on our last night and... More
