Stayed 8 nights here with my wife and son, and had a nice time. We were comfortable enough that we could have stayed another month in our little tent. Bathrooms are large and very clean, no bugs! No showers, but 1 mile outside of the campground there is pay showers($1.50 for 4 minutes, plenty of time and always very hot... more

What a gem...just minutes from the coast, including Thunder Hole is this wonderful clean, spotless camp site. Well organized, quiet & clean. We so enjoyed lighting a fire at the end of our day of exploring the island and listening to the crackle of the fire. Restrooms were just a stroll away. Awesome! more

Other reviewers have covered the basics: relative privacy of the sites, flush toilets but no soap, you can hear the ocean in the still of the night, etc. I only have a couple of points to add. (1) Because Mt Desert Island is essentially a hunk of rock, it is no surprise that camping in Blackwoods is, in some ways,... more

We booked our reservation through reservations dot gov. It does not guarantee a spot, just the fact that you would have a camp site when you get there. It was the 4th of July weekend and we got there around 7:00 PM. Check in is a breeze. I had a yearly pass, and I requested Loop - A because it... more

I have to say that Blackwoods was one of the cleanest campgrounds I have come across. We chose a single tent site (A105) in Loop A for our 4 night stay in Acadia. From our arrival at the front booth (very helpful, friendly staff), to our site (immaculate for a campsite) we could not have been happier. The site accomodated... more

My wife and I stayed at Blackwoods 2 nights over the Memorial weekend, with one tent and one car. Reservation is suggested from May 1st to October 31: we booked one week in advance through Reservation.gov, for 20$/night. When you arrive at the camp you are assigned a spot. The spot, which is for a max of 2 tents and... more

One of our best vacations ever! The National Parks system provides a fun filled itinerary for those interested in attending park programs. If you're not interested in scheduled programs there's plenty to do and see on your own. You can't get much more relaxed than soaking in all of that gorgeous scenery. We travelled with our two sons, ages 8... more

I have such conflicts with this campground, I have a hard time knowing if I would stay here again or not. The first problem was that the campground was under construction. Well, that in and of itself isn't a problem (though it is misleading for the park service to say that construction ended May 1st since we were here at... more

This is a rather uneventful campground. With that said however it is located in a nice forest of pine and spruce trees. The main advantage of this campground is its location. It is within a ten minute walk of the beach and is in the middle of this wonderful National Park. It has flush toilets, cold running water and trash... more
