This must have been one of the weirdest “hotel” experiences we ever had. Arrived on a rainy Sunday afternoon before the gate of an authentic medieval castle. At the gate a small paper indicating you had to phone a mobile number to get the keys. This done a few minutes later a very nice lady arrived, welcomed us to the... More

We found this gem on the internet and booked it as a stopover for our European trip. It was ideally located to get back to the Calais Ferry by lunchtime. It is difficult to know where to start and how to express what a fantastic experience it was to stay in the historic chateau. We we travelling with another couple... More

Upon arrival we were greater by a friendly lady who showed us around and answered any questions we had. We stayed in one of the tower rooms, not the suites, and it doesn't have an en suite bathroom but that really wasn't a problem as a shower room was located right outside our room. The room was clean and decorated... More

My family was blown by the beauty of the Chateau, the views around the castle, and hospitality of the staff. We chose the lodging as a stop to visit Verdun. It is only a 25 minute drive through the French countryside to get to the WWI battlefields. Our family of 5 booked two rooms, 1 for my wife and I,... More

We had a short but great stay here! First night was a bit scary as we arrived very late at night and stayed alone in the castle but once the sun was up the next morning we were amazed by our surroundings. They were able to provide a breakfast with gluten free options for me without issue! We didn't get... More

The chateau is a beautiful building built some 300 years ago and restored with modern facilities. We stayed overnight and we had dinner prepared and served by chef Aline in the banquetting hall. We were the only two who dined that night and the food was EXCEPTIONAL , started with dried local produce, sausage, apple slices, sultanas, then duck breast... More

An experience rare to many, spending a night in a beautifully restored castle was relaxing and exciting. The rooms were generous in size and had a wonderful aspect looking across the valley. The host was extremely helpful and made sure our needs were met. We dined in, and enjoyed an appetising 5 course meal, wines included, by the open fire... More

It is difficult to know how to describe the Chateau at Hattonchâtel; it is not a hotel as it does not have the normal amenities one expects bar, restaurant, 24 hour reception desk etc, but it is much more than a chambre d'hôte. However standing in front of the impressive entrance gate you would be hard pressed to think it... More

Such a beautiful, tranquil and charming setting. The view of the valley is truly special, and stunningly expansive. You look out upon a vast green countryside against a blue sky that seems to stretch forever, dotted only by small villages and patches of forest. Its not hard to see why the Bishop of Verdun selected this site so many centuries... More
