I was on a trip through Central Otago and had not booked accomodation before catching up with old friends in Clyde. I decided to drive through the Pigroot and after trying hotels at St Bathans and Omakau decided to try Naseby. When I arrived it was under about 100mm of reasonably fresh snow so the place really looked the part... More

What we wanted was to run away from our earthquake related trials and tribulations in Christchurch, a nice distraction for a couple of days. What we got here was a warm and hospitable welcome, fantastic hosts, great food and a wonderful cosy historic pub. Lovely to be in a country town pub which mixes the visitors with the locals, so... First up, this is not the Savoy and if you are looking for the well-oiled but impersonal perfection of a big city hotel keep driving, Queenstown is only two hours away and I am sure Rydges or the Hilton would be only too pleased to accommodate you. However, if you want the experience of old New Zealand then I can't... More

We arrived late at night shown to our rooms which were all heated and well presented. Then went to the pub to have a quiet few and the management was nice and friendly. Local fire crew was there and was in for a yarn. Breakfast was good. Owner even went and got jumper leads for our vehicle when someone didn't shut... More

After reading previous reviews I was not expecting too much.. we arrived late in the evening to not one but three roaring fires, and four smiling faces. What an awesome place! The service was amazing, staff and locals great to talk to, warm, welcoming and friendly... but wait, theres more.. we were shown to our rooms which were clean, modern,... More

Good old country pub with great food and friendly staff and locals. Would recommend to stop by if you are in the area especially if you have been Curling as there is some good Curling history in this pub.

We stayed at the Ancient Briton despite the reviews as we heard it was under new management. What a great place and it really was an unexpected gem. The staff were all friendly and the managers were so helpful and friendly. They have done a great job making the place feel welcoming - the pub has a great ambience embracing... More

You could definitely do better, but the service wasn't bad. We were installed in a cabin out back that had a comfy enough bed, but freezing and tiny bathroom and shower. The service was fine, they stayed up until 9pm for our arrival with no complaints, and in the morning we found a friendly orange cat waiting at our door... More

We booked the hotel expecting a nice, cozy old hotel with atmosphere and roaring fire. Well the hotel was actually closed (bar/restaurant opened at 4:30pm apparently?) and you had to meet the manager at a designated time. To our surprise ... she told us to drive around back to our "room" a porta-cabin at the back of the hotel which... More

Great sounding menu so our group were happy to wait the 20-30 mins before being served upon, even happy to eat in the bar area rather then the restaurant. Unfortunately the food didn't live up to menu description and we ended up waiting more then an hour to then get served processed sausages, tinned soup and meatless venison pies. The... More
