I am sorry to say that I would agree with the previous view of the inn and sad to see that nothing has changed in a year! We stayed this time last year and were so appalled we couldn't bring ourselves to write at the time. The rooms are outdated; no showers, old camberwick bedspreads that contained animal hairs, dirty... More

So disappointed. This place desperately needs refurbishment. Paid £95 for one night and this was vastly overpriced. Just because dogs are welcome does not mean people should put up with tatty, dirty unattractive and charmless accommodation. Poor shower pressure, dirty shower, sink and taps that can't have been changed for 20 years, bed like a rock, pillows like stone, only... More

Like a chocolate box the picture is pretty but the chocolates are stale and mouldy. Allowing that the place is 16th century, that it allows dogs into the accomadation, allowing all that, there is absolutely no excuse for the dirty condition of the room and the breakfast utensils. Pros: pretty as a picture outside, nice garden, nice looking bar rooms... More

We booked 2 rooms (travelled with friends) for 2 nights, decided on this place as dog friendly and we have a small dog. Well, not quite sure what to say. We arrived and nobody even said hello, we had to find a member of staff and ask if we could check in. Set the tone for the weekend, rudest staff... More

Loved!!! Love the excellent choice of ciders!! Leaflet was also interesting about the different types available. Steak & ale & the cider & sausage pies were amazing, really tasty!! Proper country pub, will definitely visit again.

Found the Castle by mistake but went in for some food.Ordered 4 different meals from the menu, all arrived fairly quick, the ham I had was of the bone and there must have been over half a pound of it along with 2eggs and chips, although a bit overpriced all in all a pleasent experience.

Bit of a curates egg but with the poorer bits predominating. The place is really due for a makeover, nothing drastic to change the overall character but there is a dividing line between shabby chic and dingy plus more attention needs to be made on cleaning the tables during opening hours. Some of the staff were absolutely fine, others weren't... More

We stayed here at the Inn for two nights but originally asked for three. Thank God we left when we did. Absolutely not good value, needs a complete facelift I would imagine in all the rooms and as previously said the towers were in a shocking state. Also in need of a really good deep clean everywhere. The menus seemed... More

A quaint and homely 16th century pub/hotel - and, just as we expected, warm, friendly, with good standard pub-grub! If you are expecting 'posh', elaborate decor and cultured rooms, then the Castle Inn is not for you! If you don't like dogs, then it is a stay best avoided! And if you want peace and quiet, in insulated rooms, then... More

Stayed here a week ago. I've seen shocking B&B's on TV, but this place was disgusting. The room was absolutely filthy, bed full of hairs both dog and human, threadbare sheets, the brown stained worn out pillow liners needed pillow liners, filed of dead skin on sheet next to headboard, dirty worn out towels (c'mon, they're £1.50 from Asda or...
