With only 5 rooms, it's definitely among the smallest places I've stayed in. The courtyard on the other hand is quite generous for the amount of guests and the dominating 200 year old theater is a gem. It's absolutely no problem to spend an entire day only in the courtyard and relax. The rooms are nice and adequate. Since I... More

Dear Beijing Fan, Thank you so much for your generous comments and for taking advantage of all we have to offer here. We do understand about having little kids in and out of the room. For the little ones, it's really fine if they have their shoes on around the courtyard and in the room. What we want to avoid... More

I stayed for a week at the Old Theatre Inn. A gorgeous accommodation. Quiet rooms, rustic, delicious breakfast and meals. Very friendly and helpful staff. Take a bicycle and explore the villages in the vicinity. A perfect spot to de-stress.

I stayed at the Old Theatre Inn only one night and wished I could have stayed longer. It's a wonderful, quiet hotel with really nice and comfortable bedrooms with all the Western comfort in the middle of rural China. Two thumbs up. Sipping a beer or taking breakfast with view on the ancient theatre stage provides a unique experience. The... More

We were recommended to stay here by Lijiang Guides. I endorse the other reviews about the great location, decor, and rooms. We only stayed for one night which was enough to enjoy its unique features. We ate in Shaxi so cannot comment on the meals. Breakfast was O.K. One word of warning - they only accept Union Pay credit card... More

We stayed for two nights in this gorgeous accommodation, which was only three kilometeres out of the town centre of Shaxi. Rooms were quiet and immaculate with beautiful Chinese decor. The central court yard was the perfect place to kick back and read a book, and delicious breakfast overlooking the valley and rural community was unique. The dining room up stair... More

Hi, We stayed here in April and can say enough nice things about it. The hotel is about 3kms from Shaxi village. It is a very pleasant walk into this village along a river through even smaller villages. The hotels attention to detail in terms of décor etc was incredible. It's location and outlook across fields of canola flowers is... More

When you choose to stay in a boutique guesthouse like the Old Theatre Inn, you are clearly going for something more than a place to stay. However, with the newly refurbished rooms, this hotel didn't let us down in this regard as well. We stayed for 2 nights and the furnishings were tasteful, the bed very comfortable, the space heater... More
