October 2013 my husband and I spent an unforgettable time at Shaxi and the Old Theatre Inn is definitely an inseparable part of the memories...The whole a commendation is naturally fitting inti O part of the local village by renovating the village theatre into a hotel with just a limited number of guest rooms, a guest lounge and dining area.... I've been to Shaxi several times and found that the running there is spectacular. The Old Theater Inn is perfectly situated next to some of the best runs in the area. Right out the back door of the hotel boasts a luscious climb up an intimidating peak with spectacular views. The running is rough and scrambling at the beginning, but... More

We had two nights at this hotel and it was fabulous. There are five rooms in the hotel and all have ensuite bathrooms which are modern. The rooms are comfortable and decorated with different themes. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. We were given afternoon tea in the courtyard when we arrived which was very pleasant. The food was... More

Dear Sir, We're happy to see you enjoy the peace and quiet of Old Theatre Inn and have recommended us as an alternative to increasingly touristy Old Town. Your suggestion of a room fan is appreciated, as in Summer they would be helpful for some guests sleep Since our rooms have 4 meter ceilings they tend to stay naturally cool,... More

This is a beautifully restored old theater, situated in rural Yunnan in the middle of rice fields. It is a China that is rapidly disappearing in its rush to development. The rooms are small, but very functional. The staff very welcoming and accommodating. The breakfast of Yunnan noodles was delicious. What is most special about this hotel is the surroundings,... Life in a real rural village within the broad fertile valley with those hills as a backdrop. Red wine on the courtyard and the delicious meals prepared as you like. Nothing too much trouble. Warm hostesses and the tranquility we expected

The staff are amazing, the food is wonderful, the views serene. It's not the cheapest in the area at $80 a night, but you get what you pay for and after dinner, drinks and rental of mountain bikes (which are good quality) we paid $180 for a night for 3 people all sharing a room. I would highly recommend the... More

When you arrive at this place amid the rice fields and walk up the steps to the entrance, you know this is going to be an amazing stay - and it was. Lovely courtyard with a temple on top. The rooms are small but functional and tidy. We engaged a local Bai minority guide Apple and she was simply wonderful.... More
