A haven from which to bush walk or kayak before enjoying lovely food overlooking the river and forest. Hosts Anne and Gerry are passionate and knowledgeable about the area and guided walks or stargazing with Gerry are not to missed. River and lake are suitable for novice kayakers, just take one out anytime or take a complimentary guided trip. Rooms... More

This is a wonderful place to stay on a visit to New Zealand's west coast. Husband and wife team, Gerry and Anne, are wonderful hosts - welcoming, informative and totally participative. The rooms are very spacious and thoughtfully, equipped. The food is great and the service second to none. The best thing is how the Lodge staff ensure you engage... More

My wife and I went with family and friends to celebrate our anniversary. We stayed two nights in Arthurs Pass and another two nights in the sister lodge at Lake Moreaki. We were very impressed with the property. On arrival we were met by Anne. We were escorted to the rooms to freshen up before an introduction to the lodge.... More

Terrific location. Knowledgeable and welcoming hosts. Rooms are more motel than lodge-like, but comfortable. Good breakfasts and dinner. Be sure to go on the morning and night walks with Gerry McSweeney, the owner, to see the birds, learn about the ecology, and observe the glowworms!

A nice location south of Fox Glacier, by a stream, with good walking trails, kayaks to explore the lake, and morning and evening nature walks with the knowledgeable owner. See glow worms, eat venison, and enjoy well-made breakfasts in laid back surroundings. Free laundry facilities and a drying room are welcome amenities.

Stayed here recently for two nights on a Back Roads cycling trip. The lodge is run by Gerry McSweeney (Ph.D., Ecology) and his wife, (Anne, always cheerful) who are committed to preserving the pristine area around the lodge. We were in relatively new en suite rooms that were spacious and nicely appointed. There is nothing around the lodge, so you... More

We stayed in a rainforest view room for 3 nights including daily dinner and breakfast. The rooms and bathrooms are excellent. Each meal was beautifully cooked. Wilderness lodge is located in the heart of the south west New Zealand world heritage area on the shores of Lake Moeraki and by the Moeraki River. It is surrounded by lowland temperate rainforest.... If you like to be in the company of a knowledgeable and friendly naturalist and guide then Gerry is the man. The highlight of our stay was the two of us spending the better part of an afternoon sitting on the beach with Gerrry watching the Fiordland Crested Penguins come down their track to the sea and some come from... We spent a wonderful day with Gerry kayaking on Lake Moeraki in the morning & visiting giant Rimu trees up to 2000 years old. In the afternoon we did the Lake Moeraki signature walk & were privileged to see fjordland crested up close . Evenings were spent feeding giant eels, glow worm spotting & star gazing. Gerry is a fabulous... More
