Let me start with a word of caution....If you want a hotel with modern amenities....Forget this place... If however you want to savour the history and splendour of a very influential part of tamil history...this is the place to stay. Chettinadu mansion happens to be the second largest mansion after the Palace. The palace is not open for guests so that... More

A forgotten piece of Indian history. Go and stay in this fabulous relic from another age. Beautiful mansion in a village of mansions reflect the Chettiars wealthy past. Ornate and very individual rooms. Be aware that it is 100 years old and reflects that in its design and facilities. If you want 5 star stay away. If you are in... More

We only had a stop over for lunch here - (pre booked veg meal) and it was well worth the experience- there wasn't an item there that I ( a South Indian myself) had tasted before - and it was all delicious! In fact there was so much of variety that we took a long break before we could have... More

Chettinadu Mansion is an amazing building and has been restored with great style. The rooms are tiled with the original tiles of over a hundred years ago and though rather dark are just as they were when built. The service is extremely good. After three weeks of travelling in India this was the first hotel or restaurant that produced the... More

During our visit in Kanadukathan we had lunch at the Chettinadu Mansion. We had a great welcome and were directed to the different mansions to be visited in the village. Then we had a tour of the Chettinadu Mansion and enjoyed a great typical lunch there. The kids loved eating on banana leaves. The food was excellent and not too... More

Staying in this family run, over 100 years old mansion "hotel" was quite an unusual experience for us. We found the building interesting and unlike anything we had seen before. The decor in our room was intriguing to say the least. Very detailed paintwork in yellows and browns. The room was gloomy because the windows needed to be shuttered at... More

This 40,000 sq ft 'family home' in a quaint little village named Kanadukathan is a gem. The living mansion offers u a glimpse into this remarkable people 'Chettiars' or 'Nagarthars' who built during their hey days not one or one hundred but 11,000 such mansions. The rooms are painted slightly garishly, tastefully furnished. No pool in the mansion but they... More
