We had a wonderful and ideally relaxing time in this secluded little hideaway... It almost felt like we had the whole place to ourselves... The place was made even more welcoming by the friendly staff, especially Sebastian, who gives you an excellent level of service along with allowing your privacy... If you want to just relax and get away from... More

We stayed there for 3 days and got the impression this is one of the places where we normally do not pay more than 40$. The accomodation is not bad, but we are speaking about hutts. The beach is long and empty, but with strong winds, nice for windsurfing , but not for beach live. For dinner there is a... More

Thank you Roberto, Vera and Sebastian for the wonderful time we had at Bar Reef Resort. This is barefoot luxury - so it is not for people who need air conditioning, room service or towels everyday. But the Villa Samara - where we stayed - was clean, bed was comfortable, the fan worked. There is no doubt that a few... More

We could not enjoy our stay here as many of us lost money from our wallets kept in the rooms. We were having breakfast and when we went back to the rooms the money was stolen. Even the drivers wallet was stolen from the drivers quarters. After writing to the owners for months only we were able to recover the... More

Although the people are friendly and the food was good. I wouldn't go back or recommend it. It's over priced and for my three young kids, boring! I've traveled all over the world and here you don't get your moneys worth, I felt riped off!

12 of us (8 adults and 4 kids) had a rare and novel experience when we stayed 2 nights at a villa in Bar Reef Resort. Resort was very clean and the villa with its large veranda, big garden and open air showers gave the feeling that we were staying in a village house. Veranda has 2 sets of L... More

There are four main spots on this beach within different concepts but all of them are so beautiful and cozy. I stayed at Udekki but visited all the Alankuda beach small resorts and I wouldn't know which one I will suggest. Alankuda is becoming one of the best hot spot in the world for kite surfing lovers. From May to... More

If you want deserted beaches, dolphin watching, a beautiful pool, outdoor showers - this is for you more for couples than families, as there's nothing to do in the area. There's a power station in the distance along the beach which affectation nothing, it's just a blot on the landscape unfortunately, god knows what the govt were thinking approving that.... More

WOW! My partner and I had the privelage of staying at Khomba House for 10 days after reading its outstanding review in Harpers Bazaar Magazine and it completely lived up to our expectations. The spot is absolutely beatiful, with the cool sea breeze running throughout the open planned house. The architecture is superb and compliments the beautiful quiet surroundings. I... More

We were picked up from the airport from Colombo and driven by our driver to Alankuda Beach Cabanas Hotel. It took about 3hrs to get to the Kalpitya penninsula and then another 30 mins to the hotel. We couldn't see any signs for the hotel and it wasn't easy to find but our driver just kept heading fo towards the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The founders of Ulpotha, the highly acclaimed retreat in the heartland of old Ceylon (see TripAdvisor listing) together with a close friend renowned in the marine adventure and water sports worlds, have opened a unique and captivatingly quirky beach resort on the western peninsula of this tear-shaped island. Situated on an undiscovered and deserted two kilometer stretch of a pristine private beach, Alankuda Beach offers a truly relaxing, discrete and romantic getaway. The azure, warm ocean is almost always mirror-calm and welcoming during the months of October to May. The coastal waters offer the treasures of dolphin and whale watching as well as snorkeling over nearby spectacular coral formations. In addition there is deep-sea fishing, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, kite and wind surfing. Alankuda Beach is situated 3 hours north of Colombo and just over 2 hours from the airport. There is a range of accommodation along the beach all managed by Alankuda Beach, so there is something for everyone. ... more   less
