Old haveli with good rooms that are well furbished if not luxuriously. Food was absolutely wonderful and the entire ambience was great - sitting in an open courtyard and sipping tea to eating under a star lit sky The team led by Mr. Raju is fantastic and caters to all your requirements within the limitations of the hotels policy Go... An excellent place - very relaxing, this grand, but understated haveli is situated in a calm and very interesting village. If you are prepared to look and be adventurous, Bagar is a fascinating place, with opportunities to visit superb, but empty, havelis. The people are very friendly, and its a good place to see Shekawati life. The hotel has very... More

This was my second experience with Neemrana and I'm even more of a fan! After a day of long travel through dusty roads and disappointing havelis, we arrived at the Piramal Haveli and immediately wished we had come straight here from Jaipur airport and not wasted the day traipsing through dilapidated havelis! Rooms are comfortable and elegantly decorated, spacious bathrooms... More

Half of an old palace partially refurbished - pity the other half is a derelict ruin. Very good food but no real dining room. Eating on the terrace in winter tends to be a little cold and windy. The great dining hall is magnificent but sparsely furnished and a lone tv at one end with two plastic garden chairs hardly... More

We spent one night at Piramal Haveli in August 2013 on our way back from a Delhi - Jodhpur roadtrip. We drove to the Haveli from Jodhpur via SH-65. The Fatehpur - Mandawa - Jhunjhunu - Bagar stretch is a tough drive due to unpaved, unmarked and unlit roads. The drive to Delhi from the Haveli takes 4 - 5... More

Hi, we travelled here from Gurgaon on 3rd August 2013 with family (6 Adults) for an outing. It took us about 4-5 hours by road as there are plenty of speed breakers on this stretch. This place is immediately after Piramal Gate. From outside you can hardly imagine there would be such a huge Haveli. When we reached the Haveli... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Baggar is the region of the painted havelis (mansions), where the Marwaris, India’s wealthiest community, once lived. They were the trading community of Rajasthan and traded treasures with caravans which passed this way on the Southern Silk Route, bartering silk with opium, porcelain with spices. From 1820 onwards they migrated to the ports of Calcutta and Bombay, to become intermediaries in the vast trade the British marine conducted at the height of their Pax Britannica. They amassed huge fortunes, and even today control virtually every sector of the modern Indian economy. The Piramal Haveli in Baggar is a Rajasthani-Italianate villa in the desert and is Shekhavati’s closest hotel to Delhi. It was built in 1928 with a large open garden and two pillared courtyards painted with colourful kitsch frescoes of flying angels, airplanes, and gods in motor cars. These add a special charm to this mansion reflecting the British presence in Jaipur since 1803. The gate of the village, which is a part of the haveli, was built by Seth Piramal to welcome the Maharaja of Jaipur on elephant back.Serving the famed local vegetarian cuisine, the legendary Marwari thalis get seasoned gourmets guessing about the mysterious savours and spices which are in those little bowls! This was the home of Seth Piramal Chaturbhuj Makharia from 1892 to 1958 whose fortune was made in Bombay, trading in cotton, opium, silver and other commodities.Walk out to Shekhavati’s painted streets – an open-air gallery of frescoes. Discover the lost villages – a fascinating adventure in itself, using Baggar as the base. As pillared corridors lead you into the past, the floors will tell their own chequered history.Relish fine thali eating with desert-spiced delicacies. Have tea with the peacocks who are literally the house sparrows of The Piramal Haveli!Discover sudden colour among the monotony of the desert. When you stay at The Piramal Haveli you join Shekhavati’s fight to retain its magnificent heritage structures by making restoration a viable, self-sustainable tourism activity. ... more   less
