Based on the size of the hotel, I was expecting great things but ended up very disappointed. Reception was was a small under manned affair with little by way of help or professionalism. Several us were told that the wifi was patchy in the rooms (patchy was being generous, non existent was a better description) but okay in the reception... More

Our experience of the Axum was a good one. We stayed in the new building. (The ground floor is called floor zero.) The beds are hard, which suits me fine. The television in the room was big-screen, and - rather important - all the plugs in the walls fitted American devices (unlike in Addis, even). The room itself was spotless... More

This hotel is new and big. However, there are some strange things that I've noticed. It was practically freezing in my room - I had to wear everything warm I had for the night and it was still uncomfortably cold. In addition there was no hot water, and I couldn't even think about cold shower at such room temperature.) At... More

I have stayed in Axum Hotel, new building in Mek'ele for one day May 13 to 14, 2014, the rooms are very clean and silent, that could help you have a quality sleep, and the breakfast is also nice you can have variety of meals, as well you can test the Ethiopian traditional meal made of "Enjera" in general Axum... A huge hotel, where we stayed as part of a tour of Northern Ethiopia. It is in two sections: the older part at the front has more character and consists of the restaurant and bar; the new part at the rear (where we stayed) is quite sterile and lacking in character. Rooms have a 'dated feel' about them and the... More

The Axum Hotel in Mekelle has two faces: a new face and an old face. The hotel’s new building is at the back of the compound. Its rooms are clean, spacious and equipped with all modern conveniences: large TV set, instant hot water and slippers. Apart from the rock hard mattresses, you could find yourself in any three-star hotel in... More

Non stop building work, really bad food, pathetic breakfast buffet, largely unhelpful staff I stayed for approximately 10 days in total and could not wait to get out. It is clean and room are good in the new building but everything else is a disaster! 76 USD is a rip off!

The Axum Hotel was OK. The bedroom was a decent size with good facilities such as flat screen TV, plenty of sockets and toiletries- if things worked. We were in the new block and our key card never worked until our last day. No water was provided but there was a fridge - again it didn't work. Breakfast was ok... More

In the course of the 18 day trip we spent two nights at this hotel. We were in the new wing. The night before going off to sleep in tents in the Danikill and the night we came back from there. I very much agree with what the last two commenters have said. The first night there was no hot... More

We stayed at Axum hotel for two nights on our way further north into the Tigray region. The hotel is decent and is nothing to write home about. Upon entering, I noticed that the entrance and lobby only had one sofa to sit on. I thought this was a bit weird since the lobby is so huge and there is... More
