We were so happy we stayed here. It's a little off the beaten path, but still easy to find using Google directions. The house is beautifully restored and wonderfully decorated. Everything was super clean and we enjoyed the living room with a warm fire instead of spending time in our room. There is also a sunroom which would be a... More

What a pleasure to stay in Lough Bishop House with the Kelly's. If you are looking for a country retreat - well off the road, homemade food, an example of courageous restoration, a comfortable big bed and a warm welcome this is the place for you. My boyfriend and I enjoyed a night here in September. On the Sunday we... More

My cousin and I stayed with Helen and Christopher for five nights in September while we traveled around Westmeath. It was so peaceful and quiet after a day of navigating the "roads" around the county. Nice to come home and have a peat fire for relaxing. They were super friendly ( as were their dogs). Christopher showed us around the... More

Welcomed by host Helen with tea and cake, and shown around the restored house. Driven around the farm by Christopher to meet the cows and horses, to view the landscape, to breathe in the country air. Dinner was fine country fare, in the company of our hosts, as was breakfast. This was the best B and B we encountered in... More

It may seem a little of the beaten track, but it is well worth the visit. Christopher and Helen Kelly will look after you very well. The setting is idyllic with beautiful farmland and the sounds of the Irish countryside seeping in through your open window... perhaps the rooster is the exception but that is ok . We had dinner... This was the best B&B on our entire Ireland trip. Helen and Christopher are super friendly hosts. They made a wonderful home out of the old farmhouse and proudly showed us their farm with the horses, cattle, sheep, chicken and dogs. The room was very nice and the bed was comfortable, even for a man of 1,96 m height. Breakfast... More

This is the best place we stayed in Ireland on a fairly extensive trip. The house is beautifully restored (by the owners) and well decorated and cared for. Very comfortable and well equipped. The farm is terrific with a moderate flock of sheep (suffolks, mixed breeds), horses and cows -- but you don't have to love sheep etc. to stay... More

This beautiful old farmhouse has been lovingly restored by the owners, Christopher & Helen, who greeted us warmly with tea and cake on arrival. Our rooms were large, nicely decorated and very comfortable - ours overlooked the front of the house with views of sheep and cows in the fields, while our niece's well-sized single overlooked the farmyard. Christopher &... More

We stayed there 2 nights for both business trip to Athlone and to experience an undiscovered region of Ireland -in a touristic point of view, of course, as Helen put it when we arrived. Helen and Christopher are wonderful hosts and make you feel at home -tea and brownies, logs burning in the fireplace, and even an unexpected very nice... More

Lough Bishop House is a secluded, bucolic idyl. The livestock operation is run by the hosts, Christopher and Helen Kelly. They are articulate about their beloved horses, sheep and their unforgettable Derrynagara cows and love sharing their experience and knowledge. The farm and its surrounding countryside is breathtakingly beautiful and there are many opportunities for leisurely walks along the long... More
