Stayed here over Easter. As others on this site have said the food is devine. No need to over elaborate - you must try it. Christine was an excellent hostess, and the place itself is very nice. On the downside there are no televisions in this establishment. I wanted to watch a certain rugby match and fortunately found a great... more

The term "hidden gem" is over-used in travel reviews but this is a true hidden gem. This is not the place to go for big hotel facilities, such as pools and gyms, but if you want to relax and enjoy great food for a few days then this is where to go. Effectively you have the run of the house... more

This was our third stay in The Old Convent and really it just gets better and batter - if that's possible! Dermot and Christine are back from a break away with even more zest and enthusiasm. In keeping with the times they have introduced a €25 dinner in the drawing room. The €65 eight course tastings menu is unmatched anywhere... more

The most romantic hotel I have ever stayed in. The food was amazing and our hostess Christine is wonderful - she made us feel like we were her personal guest. Had a great room with a fourposter. From our bed we could even see the mountains. The 8 course menu was also a real treat. I can recommend anyone I... more

We stayed here in February with another couple and had an amazing time. The welcome is warm and friendly, the food is great, the rooms are really gorgeous. The location is rural with some good hill walks around. My boyfriend had apparantly been waiting for an appropriate time to propose, and liked this place so much he popped the question... more

I am stuck for words to describe how fab this place is. As soon as you walk in the door and are given the tour you just feel at home and relaxed. We stayed in the aforementioned No. 4 and yes a little on the small side but we thought perfect. The couch was nice and cozy in the corner... more

I find it very difficult to write this review as I simply don't want more people to find out about this little gem tucked away in south Tipp. It does not have a champion golf course on site - you don't have to listen to a hole by hole run down by fellow diners of the day's eagle or dog... more

We stayed in room No. 4 with small sitting area in the corner of the room beside the small clinical bathroom with no window, decorated with highest standards in mind but poorly finished. Room number 4 suffers from noise due to the fact that’s its adjacent to the handy kitchen on the landing which may explain why room number 4... more

An out of the way oasis in the heart of Tipperary well worth the effort. The Old Convent has been discovered by the Irish but is a "must" for all vacationers seeking top rate accommodations and extraordinary food. Dermot and Christine Gannon, the innkeepers are devoted to the comfort and care of their visitors. Our room was spotless, beautifully furnished... more

We celebrated a family birthday in The Old Convent in early October. we all had a great time. The 8 course tasting menu was wonderful, some of the dishes were inspired, we will remember the pork and the lamb including the sweetbreads for a while. The choclate 'fondue' sharing dessert was lovely, we couldn't finish it. The vegetarian in the... more
