Take one old Sister of Mercy convent building in a charming location, add a lot of cleverly subtle interior design work, an amazing chef, a bevvy of friendly staff and the result is an experience that will have you wishing you had booked more days. The Old Convent, Clogheen, County Tipperary is a 'restaurant with rooms'. While the building shell... More

Drawing room was full, so was told be receptionist to go into dining room. Large room no pictures, grey walls, since we were the only people there, it felt rather cold. Did we want a drink ??? Well if we did, nobody bothered to ask. By 2020 hrs everyone came into the dining room and the meal begin. A tasting... More

I am just back from a 2 day escape in The Old Convent, and have rarely felt so relaxed. We left Dublin on Friday nite quite stressed out after a long week’s work. We battled through chaotic bank holiday traffic but within minutes of checking in at The OC this all became a distant memory. It’s a haven of tranquillity!... More

On two nights over Easter this year, we enjoyed superb food. The staff were excellent, attending to every detail but without being "over the top". This small boutique hotel is a haven of peace and quiet. You are made to feel at home, only diference is you don't have to lift a finger. We will be back! Ann and Sean More

This was our second visit to this superb restaurant and "country house". Once owned by an order of nuns it has been transformed into one of the best restaurants in Ireland and an overnight stay in any of its comfortably decorated rooms is a must. We stayed in the Professors Suite with a wonderful view of the nearby mountains and... More

A fantastic getaway but be sure to be hungry. Every detail has been considered and I particularly liked the service room for guests where you can make your own hot chocolate, grab a cookie or borrow aboard game.... A retreat but not as the nuns had intended!! More

The Old Convent is just what it says on the tin, an old convent converted very tastefully into a luxury guesthouse. As soon as you walk in the door you can feel the peace and tranquility of the former residents. The welcome was so pleasing, an invite to tea and cakes and a lovely fire lighting in the drawing room.....I... More

110% recommend the Old Convent for a relaxing weekend away. We had the full experience - 2 nights B&B, the 8-course meal on one night and the lighter 'Bento box' on the other....food is exceptionally good. Staff are excellent and efficient. Stayed in the loft suite....fabulous room...extremely spacious....cool bath! Most comfy bed in a longwhile! Went for a long walk... More

Great location, beautiful old building, sumptuous rooms; but mostly - the best dining experience I have ever had. We received the 8 course meal as a wedding gift and stayed overnight there. Truly original and exceptional. Each and every course was delicious. Well worth a weekend treat. Great selection of wines. Seriously, this place is idyllic. More

Recently went for a meal with friends. The least impressive course was good, the others ranged from very good to excellent. Great service, attentive. Overall a very memorable night with, as one friend said, " an outstanding meal." More
