Fantastic room - well equipped with an outstanding view of the bay. Friendly staff. Wished we could have stayed longer. Perfect setting to watch the sunset with fish & chips from the Mangonui Fish shop washed down with a bottle of sparkling red.

We only stumbled across this place after seeing a road sign, but we were glad we did. A lovely beachside room, quiet and with friendly owners. It is also very good value for money - the cheapest motel we stayed in in New Zealand, and with perhaps the best access to the water. The beach is nothing special by Northland... More

New Zealand beaches are not the best in the world so when I find a hotel/motel next to a great beach I am always impressed. And this hotel is right on a very nice beach with a huge, fantastic pohutukawa tree right there on the beach to sit under. The room we were in was not new or fantastic but... More

What a fantastic location! Beautiful views, and direct access to an amazing beach. Management are very nice, and the rooms are well kept. Stayed with my 11 month old, and found everything quite accommodating. Can't beat the price! Many scenic views are also within close driving distance. Hotel management provided us with a great map. There is a thorough information... More

We spent four lovely nights at this motel with the most amazing sea view. It might be true that rooms need an upgrade, but at the same time the building (one of the oldest on the coast) has its own character and charm, which adds to the stay. The new management is very friendly and always available for any request.... More

Very nice place to stay. Loved the view from our unit and the fact that the beach is just a few metres away from your door steps is even better. I would say it's a family friendly accommodation and a great romantic get away place also for couples. Thank's for a great stay San Marino Motor Lodge!

I worked in a large motel which had new owners and was a little down at heel. The owner used to buy nick nacks instead of investing in the infrastructure. She went broke, don't do that. This is a truly magnificent location and deserves a well maintained finish to complement the lovely new owners, forget about kyacks and renovate.

There is a lot going for the San Marino, we had an upstairs room, you are right on the beach front, nothing to obstruct your views of Coopers beach and beyond. The only thing to really let it down - is the lodge decor is quite dated, think circa late 70's maybe early 80's. However it is under new management... More

The motel units are located 20~30m from the waterfront of Coopers Beach. This is a beautiful beach that lends itself well to swimming, fishing and walks galore. Extremely pleasant and quiet surroundings. There are also lots of historic points of interest in the region. While the decor and furnishings of the motel units are a bit tired, everything is functional... More

We stayed here for a Winter's weekend break with our two young children in July. The location is fantastic, literally a few steps down to the beautiful beach. The rooms are 'old school' but they are extremely clean and cosy. The owners are lovely and very accommodating. My only suggestion would be that they get some blackout blinds as the... More
