What a wonderful surprise this lovely hotel turned out to be! Not having much faith in the far north accomodation after a disappointing B&B in Russell. We were on the move and my husband found The Old Oak on the internet. I must say the professional photos don't do it justice. From the time we arrived we were enveloped with... More

And better than all the rest. The Inn is charming and unique. It has been lovingly restored with great attention to detail. It combines old world elegance with a modern flair. The location makes a great base for day trips to Cape Reinga in the north and the Waipoua forest on the west coast. The many beaches in Doubtless Bay... More

This beautiful hotel is a top holiday experience and is situated overlooking the bay. It has been wonderfully restored with quality fittings and has the added bonus of a charming garden, good WiFi and excellent tv reception. Nothing was too much trouble for Jean and Gary, our hosts. We had meals out in the local cafés and explored the area... More

Such a beautiful little hotel on the waters edge in one of best areas of NZ. Faultless. Will recommend to all my friends when visiting Doubtless Bay and the Far North region. Heritage + modern requirements.

The Old Oak Hotel is a lovely property, beautifully and painstakingly restored. The rooms are well appointed with air conditioning and free wifi. There is also an exceellent selection of tv channels from around the world. The reception area doubles as a guest lounge and where there are games and books to occupy time. We stayed in the Tui room,... More

We spent two nights here and I have to confess it ranks in our top five holiday experiences, Jean welcomed us to her hotel with buckets of warmth and some really sound advice on how to get the best out of our short stay, from the moment we checked into our garden room, the stress of the Xmas traffic began... From the moment we arrived we where made to feel very welcome. Our hosts went beyond to make our stay with them comfortable and memorable. We had the totara room which was decribed as small. But it was perfectly appointed and we had no complaints on its size. The two chairs an added bonus as we enjoyed our breakfast while... More

A quick trip to mangonui turned out to a highlight staying at the old oak. Beautiful large room with a secluded garden setting out back. Bed was as comfortable as home. Quiet, restful , and a minutes walk to the shops...highly recommend. Jean the hostess is very charming and helpful. And do try the Indian restaurant next door...nom nom.

Mangonui is a small, quaint community on a beautiful secluded harbor next to the often wild Pacific ocean. We chose this as an base to visit sites in the most northerly end of New Zealand. And it was. The hotel hosts are very caring, very helpful and the accommodations were perfect. Some details include: the "Little Kitchen on the bay"... More

Beautifully positioned, renovated hotel on water's edge. Good access to lovely garden from back rooms and great view from front rooms. Some traffic noise from road for front rooms in the morning but not really a problem. A few minutes walk to all that Mangonui has to offer and a fantastic Indian restaurant next door. Helpful owners. Friendly cat! What... More
