We arrived in town without having booked any accommodation and the first place we saw was the Old Oak. I've travelled a lot and know a great little hotel when I see one and immediately wanted to stay there. My instincts were proved right. We booked in - thankfully a room was available due to the dreadful weather they'd been... More

We stayed here for just one night, arriving in Mangonui late one afternoon and leaving the following morning. If we'd know how lovely this hotel was, we may well have worked the schedule to stay another night. The hotel has been lovingly restored to a high standard - we stayed in a double room overlooking the beautiful garden. Gary and... More

Superb place to stay - the owners were friendly, helpful and unobtrusive. Everything was tip top and there was nothing we would fault. In fact we hope to visit and stay again More

Stayed here for two nights in early Jan 2012. Lovely historic building and Gary the host was great, but our suite (the Ruru suite at $320 per night) was upstairs on the road front and the traffic noise was very loud. The master bedroom was cosy and the bed was very comfortable but overall the suite was small for 3... More

I stayed at this wonderful property 3 different times and was always thrilled with my experience. Gary and Jean, the owners, are warm and welcoming and extremely helpful with activities in the area, including... More

We booked this lovely hotel having seen previous reviews on Trip Advisor and we were so happy we did. We originally booked for 2 nights but became so comfortable and relaxed that we extended for an extra night! The hotel is very much a boutique hotel with a small number (maybe 6?) rooms which are all beautifully renovated and spotlessly... More

The Old Oak represents what New Zealand is all about ... relaxing , accomodating, proudly serviced and stunningly decorated - just like the gorgeous bay that snuggles right alongside it. It is a gem of a place in this sleepy and still unspoiled coastal village of Mangonui. The hotel is recently renovated and is chic and immaculately presented . There... More
