Great service, great food, and amazing views. Can't say a bad word about this place. First time that i've not been allowed to leave a little tip so i thought the least i could do is give a good review :)

The Mangonui Hotel is old and looks a bit worn out, but it is full of character and very friendly. A bit like Paddy who runs it. The front of the balconied hotel faces across the beautiful Mangonui inlet from Doubtless Bay. Parking is no problem facing the hotel. Do not back into Paddy's shiny Triumph Thunderbird 1600. Paddy is... More

I visited the hotel every day of my three week stay in Mangonui. The beer was good and not overpriced and next door they have a restaurant come takeaway where I had Hoki and chips for a very reasonable $6.50. I also had a steak, eggs and chips for $22 which was good.In the beer garden you get a great... More

We recently spent a night at this charming hote.... nothing flash, but homely, comfortable, clean linen, clean bathroom, belony, right over the water and friendly staff...... It's proximity to one of the best seafood places in Northland is a bonus. Would stay there again.

When we are in NZ we regular come across lovely older pubs which are great to stay at & to meet the locals. This hotel is right on the water, we stayed in a room with our own bathroom it was clean & comfortable, also had doors that opened out onto the veranda where you could sit & look out... More

We stayed in this hotel for a night and would do so again. The locals were very friendly and the staff very helpful. However don't expect too much, the rooms need attention but were quite adequateand clean enough. The atmosphere of the old buliding is charming and I would love to see it restored. I'm glad we had this experience.

Okay, so this is not 5 Star, it is not even 2 Star but hey, it is what it is. If you are on a family holiday, a honeymoon or just want peace and quiet, do not stay here. If you want to experience a "rustic" hotel, have a yarn and a drink (maybe even a few too many) with... More

All over NZ you will run into 'hotels' that are also the local pub. They are the best places to go to if you want to learn something about local life. The Mangonui Hotel is one of these wonderful places, the building is over a hundred years old and time has stopped here on the outside but also inside the... More

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Pat , Paddy and staff who made it just perfect and loved the fresh smoked fish! Lots of history in this charming hotel and the locals mademe very welcome in the bar . The sunrises are amazing from the veranda. Already looking forward to coming back but perhaps in the summer!

My husband and I were one of four couples who stayed here for a night recently. We later found out it is used for 'unsavoury activities' frequently and we weren't surprised. Our rooms were $100 a night and the one my husband and I had (Room 10) was disgusting; like a cupboard with not even a double sized bed, despite... More
