We enjoyed our stay at Sugar Beach, but were somewhat let down by the room. It is very spacious but does need an updated look to stay on par with the other properties we stayed at in Costa Rica. The beach is very nice. The sand is sugar-fine. The pool is nice, shaded, but slightly small. Great view from the... More

What an amazing find this place is and worth the dusty drive. My daughter & I loved this hotel: beautiful, very private beach, perfect surf, amazing sunsets, great service and rooms. Boogie boarding at sunset was awesome, as was the small but very nice infinity pool, the breakfast and more. Its a sustainable tourism place so they don't water the... More

What an amazing gem the Hotel at Sugar Beach is!! We found it through Lonely Planet and were searching for a nice place on the beach for two days at the end of our ten day trip to Costa Rica. The hotel is the only set of buildings along the medium sized cove for Playa Pan de Azucar, which is... More

We have now made Sugar Beach a regular Costa Rica destination. This wide crescent beach is family friendly, few surfers to avoid, wonderful tide pools to explore and a very friendly staff. The rooms are spacious, with window walls on the Pacific, and meticulously maintained. The birding is superb, the walks along the coastal rocks are fun for the adventurous.... More

I was privileged enough to host my 5 day destination wedding at Sugar Beach and I could not be happier with every single aspect of the experience. Obviously our wonderful guests had a lot to do with that feeling but so did the staff and the resort. I would like to break my praise down into a few different areas:... More

This hotel was the last stop on our trip to Costa Rica. The ride there was 5 hours from our previous hotel, which was a little much. But once we got there the views were amazing! The rooms were pretty clean, except for the gecko, but it didn't bother us. The beach is pretty, but full of rocks, so watch... More

My wife and I were invited to a destination wedding at this hotel, located in the far northwest region of Costa Rica. We traveled by bus from San Jose with other guests. What was billed as a 4 1/2 hour ride took 6 hours. (The return trip in a Toyota mini-van was a little over 4 hours.) The property itself... More

The place I always dreamed about in the 1960's and thought didn't still exist. The folks that run the hotel and restaurant are first class, the views are fantastic and the quality of the food excellent! If you are looking for a jungle hideaway I don't know how you could do any better.

So we reached the point in our trip where we had no more hotels reserved and we opted to get in our trusty rental and drive north. I wanted to go to Brasillitos so we went and it was...bad. Just kinda crowded and blugh and not really the way to end a trip ya know? Kept driving and my girlfriend/navigator... More

Hotel is awesome. The staff at the restaurant are sooooo friendly. Since it is the only one you can really get, you gat to have the same staff every day and become friends. THe food is good. The beach is gorgous, but watch the sharp rocks under water. Some beaches don't have rocks like this, so be careful! There are... More
