Our stay here was arranged by Costa Rica Vacations and their local knowledge helps to pick the best spots. This facility is carefully managed and staffed by the best. It is sort of isolated on its own beach and is a local favorite for Tico families on the weekends. The sound of the surf makes for excellent sleeping - our... More

Hotel Sugar Beach is a wonderful getaway, located right on a small isolated beach north of the busy touristy beach towns of Tamarindo and Potrero. We stayed for 4 days. It's very secluded and quiet. Because of its location, unless you have a car (we didn't), you will probably just stay at the resort and eat your meals there. This... More

What a wonderful place, heaven on earth indeed! The only thing that exceeded the beautiful and idyllic surroundings were the people. Pablo, Gaby, Melissa, Gama, Sven, Alejandro, Eric, Victor, Issac, Leslie (I apologize if I have misspelled anyone's name) and all the rest of the wonderful people at Sugar Beach were unbelievable and never hesitated to do anything to make... This place is paradise for soul, mind, and body. Excellent and very helpful staff, beautiful secluded beach, good food in restaurant, spacial clean room, and amazing nature every second during our stay in Hotel Sugar Beach.

We stayed here with on a group trip for 3 nights. We felt as if we had moved into a tropical zoo. As we walked around the property we encountered the true residents of the area: monkeys, ctenosaurs (huge lizards), coati (large raccoon-like mammal), many small lizards, numerous birds, and countless insects. We were in the older cabins arrayed around... More

We spent four day after Xmas in a secondfloor suite. We have been here many times before through the years and this was one of our most memorable stays at SB. Everyone spoiled us rotten; the waiters, the chef, and the lady from housekeeping. I spent my time admiring nature. It was amazing! The baby howler monkey so tiny it... More

We loved your vivid description of all of the animals you were able to spot in our property. How lucky of you to get to see the baby turtle making it all the way into the ocean! It's great to hear that you had a memorable Christmas season at Sugar Beach. Everyone, no matter what role they play at Sugar... More

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay with our 2 young boys. It's like stumbling upon paradise!. The location is the winning point. Overlooking the beach which is clean, safe and quiet. Fantastic views-sunsets. Our room was large and clean. Totally sufficient and very good value. Great waiting staff and front of house. There were couples, groups and families when... More

Thanks for rating our beach as clean, safe, and quiet! Some of our other reviews do talk about our location and the great sunsets we have here. So glad to hear you were able to enjoy it - along with your boys. We will share with our front staff and waiters your good review as well. Feel free to come... More

We returned home from Costa Rica just last week. It was our 5th visit to this beautiful place and our 5th stay at Hotel Sugar Beach. We absolutely love it! We received a very friendly greeting at the check-in desk and met Gaby and Sven. We also got to see our friend, Pablo, who is the Operations Manager. We stayed... More

We absolutely love it when we have guests that want to repeat the experience year after year! Sounds like every time you come down here, you discover different ways to enjoy the area, the food, the flora, fauna, and the rest of the property. We were very excited about your visit and are always looking forward to the next one.... More

What happened to this place?? Hotel Sugar Beach was one of our favorite little hotels to visit a couple yrs ago. Now - the facilities are downtrodden, the smell of sewage permeates the grounds on & off through the day, as does a morning whiff of skunk smells, locals show up in huge groups (literally busloads) - armed with tables... Playa Pan de Azúcar, where we are located, does become a popular vacation spot during Peak Season - especially during New Year’s celebrations. According to Costa Rican laws, beaches are public and locals are allowed to enjoy the public areas - along with their colorful traditions and folklore. We apologize if you felt the facilities to be overcrowded. Both you... More

We decided on this hotel based on the pictures and proximity to a relative secluded beach. Our ocean view room was interrupted by multiple trees so our view is only a sliver of the ocean and you have to sit in a certain chair in order to see it. There was one room that was air conditioned and one room... More

Greetings! The rooms you are describing are the Master Suites in front of the pool and the ocean. As you clearly describe them, these rooms are advertised as partial ocean views, since we want to protect that area and the trees in our tropical dry forest. We offer A/C units in every bedroom, but we do not offer A/C units... More
