I recently stayed at the Chateau de Lavaud hotel in Montbron for four nights. The hotel is situated just to the south of Montbron with beautiful views of the weir on the Tardoire river. The owners, Robert and Florence, are absolutely charming and warmly welcomed me to their glorious chateau. My large room was at the front overlooking the Tardoire... More

A wonderful place : relaxing, things to do, lovely countryside, and top notch hosts in Florence and Robert. Breakfast on the terrace in the morning was the perfect start to the day. We used the bicycles for an afternoon of touring which was a good way to get out and about. But staying by the pool was also a nice... More

This stay was one of a kind, so very nice and the owners are the most kindest, helpful and nice people we meet in France! The room was cosy decorated, and we really felt at home, not as on a hotel. Breakfast - all homemade by the owner - when the weather is fine can be eaten outside by the... More

One cannot compare directly this wonderful example of a homely little chateau with the great hotels of the world - it is an entirely different experience. Yet, having spent some 30 years travelling and working around the world, we have no hesitation in placing Chateau de Lavaud at the top of its category. Firstly, the setting is "La France Profonde"... I can't really add to the other excellent reviews for Chateau de Lavaud but I promised Mme Manderscheid I would write one so here it is! The Chateau really is a gorgeous retreat in a beautiful part of France. The rooms, the welcome and the breakfast were all excellent. There is no dinner option but the staff at the Italian... More

We can only endorse the very positive feedback already showing in the reviews. Charming and helpful hosts, who booked dinner for us in two lovely places; spacious rooms, furnished with great style; lovely pool; delicious breakfast, served on a sundrenched terracy by the pool; peaceful location. This was our first stay in B&Bs rather than hotels, and I think we... More

What an absolutely super place. This chateau has been beautifully restored and the rooms, if ours was anything to go by, are superb. The owners have designed and furnished each room in the style of a country in which they have lived - ours was the Moroccan room. It was huge with an enormous bed and sumptuous linen. The bathroom... This chateau is both beautiful and beautifully restored. We stayed in The de Courtis Suite which is in the chateau itself and it was very spacious with a large modern bathroom and large windows with nice views overlooking the Tadoire River. The grounds are nice for strolling around and there is a picnic table right on the river that we... More

How understated this renovated Chateau, what a delight on arrival met by owner Florence who made us tea and showed us to our delightful spacious room The Kerkennah. We also had use of an adjoining lounge wth television and outside a swimming pool. Breakfast was a delight homemade preserves, yoghurt and croissants etc. Florence (French)and husband Robert (American) were charming hosts... More
