This is a wonderful halfway stop when travelling between Cape Town and Durban - far enough away from the N1 to escape the noise of trucks but not too far a detour. The copse of trees is visible in the distance from the highway and marks this oasis in the rather desolate topography. The rooms are small and adequately furnished... More

Classic hospitality and beautifully appointed rooms. Full of charm and character. The perfect midway stop for a leisurely trip from Johannesburg to Cape Town and back. Request the Blue room for a private tucked away gem. Rooms are clean and the staff are friendly. Take the time to read about the areas history in the guest guides fascinating.

The Kuilfontein Stable Cottages is an unusual place, rustic, quaint, great food, considerate and kind staff, personable owners, the sky that goes forever and on it goes. A relaxing place in the midst of the Karoo that gives an experience taking one back in time while remaining modern.

My family and I stayed at both the Stables and the Paddocks at this beautiful location in the Karoo. We were travelling from Cape Town up to the Kruger Park and we made this our 'half-way mark' going up and coming down and what a wonderful choice it was! We had never stayed here before and going up we stayed... More

We have been traveling up to Mpumalanga (previously the Eastern Transvaal), for 35 years and have always made our halfway stopover in Bloemfontein. When friends heard that we were going up 2 weeks ago, they said "you just HAVE to stay at Kuilsfontein!", and we did. Although under halfway to Mpumalanga, (about 7 hours from CT), we will never stay... More

We were very fortunate that somebody told us about Kuilfontein Stable Cottages, a few kilometres outside Colesberg. Our party of three stayed at The Paddocks. Formerly mare stables, it was converted into self-catering units, individually named after the horses in 2011. The units consist of two en-suite rooms, one with a bath and the other one with a shower. Six... More

A second visit, and we were greeted like old friends. Comfortable accommodation and excellent food are part of the package. What really lifts it it the way one is welcomed. A pre-dinner drink in the small pub has everyone present chatting. More like an evening with friends than a overnight stop.

Such a lovely place to stay on your way to or from the coast to JHB. Warm and friendly atmosphere. Rooms are beautifully decorated in country style. Food is honest home cooking. Wine and beers readily available. The family pets all very cute. Would happily recommend and go back. B*2

Being 12km outside Colesberg means that Kuilfontein is ideally positioned to break the long journey by car from Johannesburg to the Cape coastal regions into manageable legs. A very warm welcome and friendly service was received from all involved. The stable rooms are small but comfortable and beautifully furnished. A relaxed late afternoon was spent walking around the farm before... More
