Being 12km outside Colesberg means that Kuilfontein is ideally positioned to break the long journey by car from Johannesburg to the Cape coastal regions into manageable legs. A very warm welcome and friendly service was received from all involved. The stable rooms are small but comfortable and beautifully furnished. A relaxed late afternoon was spent walking around the farm before... More

Many things I like about Kuilfontein, its on a farm just a short distance from the N1 and almost midway between Cape Town and Johannesburg. The thing however I enjoy most is being treated like an invited guest and not as a customer. Rooms are converted stables, with nice comfortable beds and a big shower. You are invited to meet... More

After reading the reviews on Tripadvisor we chose to stay over on this delightful farm both south and north bound on our holiday. We were received a warm welcome from Patricia who settled us into our room - the blue room the red room on our return. Both both these rooms are charming with many thoughtful touches to make one's... My daughter and I stayed at Kuilfontein Stable Cottages on our way from Durban to Cape Town. We loved the fact that it is part of a working farm. We had the most beautiful sunset and we took wonderful photos. We were warmly welcomed by Penny and later joined by Lexi and her family. Before dinner we had drinks in... More

Staying over on a journey from Cape Town to Jozi was always a pain because of the stop over halfway. This is no longer the case. This was our first stay at Kuilfontein and what a nice surprise. Our family room was spacious and well fitted out. We had a friendly pre-dinner drink in the cosy pub, met some new... More

We have stayed over at the Stables many many times and still cannot wait to come back on our next trip to Plett! I love the way you are greeted by name and Penny never forgets who you are. We book the room with the kingsize bed, Wotwonit, and the one next to it with 2 single beds for our... More

We have been staying at Kuilfontein for more than ten years when we travel from Johannesburg to the Cape. It is just fabulous. The welcome by Penny or now Lexie, the gorgeous rooms, the pre dinner drinks in the Rack and Ruin and then the Cordon Bleu dinner. It could be served in any top restaurant and we love that... More

We have been staying with the Southey's on their Karoo farm, on and off for 17 years - so it must be good. The B&B accommodation is rustic but comfortable and full of character. They have now added a block of self-catering units called "The Paddocks". We had a peep at one of these and they look very good. Its... More

In the middle of nowhere, you are confronted by a grand house and a grand welcome. Our accommodation provided everything we needed, even a dog on the bed! We had pre dinner drinks where we were introduced to the other residents. Penny, was a lively and very friendly host. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. Highly recommend Kuilfontein.

Traveling from Pretoria to Hermanus, The Stables is my families favorite over night stop. Rooms are in converted stables. The Karoo is cool if not cold at night and there are plenty blankets and heaters to chase off the chill. Pietie, the ginger cat will also keep your feet warm if you want. The bar with a roaring fire and... More
