All I can say is, "WOW!" I have been to dozens and dozens of luxury resorts in all corners of the world, and Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse without a doubt makes the "A-List." Beautiful grounds, wonderfully-decorated public rooms, outstanding service, and a fabulous room (I was in the "Scandinavian Naturalist's Suite") hit all the right buttons. And then there is the... We stayed at Cleopatra with our 2 daughters in July, and were thoroughly spoilt with wonderful rooms, incredible service from the staff and of course the amazing gourmet food! Even breakfast was a gourmet 3 course affair!. Being winter, there were roaring fireplaces everywhere, and although we didn't get round to do much walking or hiking, it was just as... More

Lovely relaxing retreat in a great location. Superb food expertly served and presented on stylish crockery. Skip lunch though if you want to appreciate your dinner! Loved the pre dinner explanation of the menu and the interesting little tales regarding the history of the place - totally engaging. We felt so welcome and all the staff were so friendly and... My wife booked us in at Cleopatra for a romantic weekend. It was nothing short of superb. The Poynton's love of the area and the serious love of food are why you go. The tarred road from Nottingham Rd is potholed to hell so take it easy but its a a pretty drive. The staff are fantastic and the rooms... More

Deep into the "Little Berg" of the Drakensberg mountains you find Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse, owned and managed by the original founders of Granny Mouse Farmhouse. It is a small up market boutique hotel with only 11 rooms (no kids under 12). Aimed at the foodie, the restaurant serves excellent set menus that differ every night. The dinner is a bit... More

We stayed for two nights in March 2015 as part of a 34 night road trip, so this review is relatively objective. This time we stayed in one of the standard rooms, which was cosy and comfortable, complete with a log burner. The room and bathroom were compact and frankly are in need of an overhaul and update, but, we... More

We normally stay the night and enjoy the dining with all the courses. This time we just went for lunch, and although it was good, was not nearly as great as the evening dinners. The staff are very well trained and management always helpful and polite. Love coming here - beautiful views, and very quiet and tranquil

We recently attended a wedding at this establishment. Although we overnighted elsewhere we spent a lot of time at this lodge over 2 days. The attentive staff and the service were the best I have ever had. The food was also amazing. Honestly not one course disappointed. It's quite price for the locals traveling on the rand but as a... We spent 3 nights there with friends. Very friendly and happy staff, beautiful rooms, the most delicious food, although the option to have one less courses would have been good. Thankfully the walking in the Drankensburg was superb and manage to walk go some of the calories that we consumed. We even saw 3 Wattled Cranes which was a huge... More
