Stayed overnight on the left side studio apartment. View to the beachfront from your room with dolphins surfing the waves. The blue penguins are noisy little creatures at night!. Would have stayed longer if there were any vacancies.

This place is just phenomenal, in every way. The magnificent setting right on Porpoise Bay, miles of empty beach with the tide far out, Hectors dolphins cavorting straight out the windows, blue penguins vocalizing under the decks and on the path (hard to describe - sort of between a squawk, a screech and a gargle?) and plenty of other interesting... Funky three bedroom holiday cottage with to die for views of the bay and headlands. Two cats will move in, preferring room by the wood stove. Nearby, hector Dolphins, yellow eyed penguins, petrified forest, Caitlin's walks...if you can pull away from the cottage or long walks on the perfect beach. Blissfully isolated, bring groceries and a full tank of gas.

What a mixed bag - Fabulous and disappointing. On balance it is very good but what a shame that with a little love it could have been fabulous. So many things about this place reflects money and but lack of humanity. The views are 'to die for' ! One can watch the dolphins at play in the surf from the... More

Location ======= With direct access to the beach at Porpoise Bay. You can watch Hector's dolphins from the bed or sofa (we saw them lots of times on every day). About 1 min drive from the parking lot of Curio Bay/Fossil Beach where you can observe yellow eyed penguins. Little blue penguins live around the property, but unfortunately we have... More

We wanted to get off the beaten path on our New Zealand trip and heard about Curio Bay. Thanks to this site, we learned about this accommodation option and now want to help spread the word. We stayed in one of the studios and it was fantastic. The studio is well equipped and luxurious, especially for beach accomodations. The view... More

I stayed in the apartment attached to the hosts' house for one night and had a wonderful experience (several of them, actually)! I was hospitably welcomed by the whole family at one point or another and charmed by their efforts to suckle a young calf that wasn't being sufficiently fed by it's mother. Because I went straight out to Curio... More

Stayed for one night in an apartment. The good : amazing sea view, amenities of high standard (bed, bath, ...), nice little touches - e.g coffee grinder. Less good : room could have better heating (there is only a radiator which wasn't able to warm it enough even when turned to maximum). You should also know this is the 'side... More

We stayed in one of the duplex units for 2 nights. Beware, food and other staple items are pretty limited close by so plan accordingly. We were on the beach both days at sunrise, and not another person. Walked to the bluff overlooking the crashing waves. Saw a little sea lion up close and personal. Go at dawn to see... More

This was our second stay (the other was in 2007, we found our comments in the visitors book) and very enjoyable. You can't really get much closer to the beach than this and with little blue penguins nesting under the front and rear decks nature is pretty close too. The bed is huge (super king I think) and the shower... More
