Stayed for one night in an apartment. The good : amazing sea view, amenities of high standard (bed, bath, ...), nice little touches - e.g coffee grinder. Less good : room could have better heating (there is only a radiator which wasn't able to warm it enough even when turned to maximum). You should also know this is the 'side... More

We stayed in one of the duplex units for 2 nights. Beware, food and other staple items are pretty limited close by so plan accordingly. We were on the beach both days at sunrise, and not another person. Walked to the bluff overlooking the crashing waves. Saw a little sea lion up close and personal. Go at dawn to see... More

This was our second stay (the other was in 2007, we found our comments in the visitors book) and very enjoyable. You can't really get much closer to the beach than this and with little blue penguins nesting under the front and rear decks nature is pretty close too. The bed is huge (super king I think) and the shower... More

We spent two amazing nights in one of the boutique studios right on the beach. Since it was the middle of winter there was barely anyone else around anywhere in the Catlins, which made it all the more lovely. I could have taken that bed home. It's enormous, and made from old railway sleepers. We made some yummy meals in... More

We travelled from Dunedin for the weekend to south of South Island. We had little time to explore but found this wonderful accommodation for one night facing the beach and sea with only sand dunes in between. Great place; highly recommended. It's dark at night and quite apart from the sea and the yellow eyed penguins at Curio Bay are... More

Really beautiful place, we stay at beachhouse apartment. Acces by next to the family (that live next to you) garage not bad but not the best of the appartment. The appartment is totally independent from the main house. Only a room with bathroom, but both are really big, modern and with all amenities. There are a small cooking area, open... More

This was an overnight on our way to Dunedin and we were lucky to arrive early afternoon and have time to explore. Location on the beach is just perfect and the bach is well appointed with a super bed, great sofa and even a washing machine and dryer. We walked on the beach and were almost alone, and then made... There are a few options when staying with these hosts - Curio Cottage, two Boutique Studios and the Beachhouse Apartment. We chose the latter which is attached to the owners home and in October 2013 it cost $180 per night. Nick and Dani have a working farm and may not always be around however details of key collection, etc are... More

We loved this place so much we decided to stay an extra night. The apartment is great. Spacious, fantastic views, and really well appointed. Sunrises in the morning from the enormous bed, dolphins in the bay, sea lions and seals close by, and yellow-eyed penguins all made for a great break. When we weren't scanning for wildlife we really enjoyed... More

We watched a storm blowing whilst tucked up in the massive bed in this cottage and felt really cosy. The location is great, you could stare out to the sea for ages and it feels quite remote which is great if you want to relax and unwind. The lack of wifi and a TV was exactly what we needed. We...
